MOREHEAD, Ky. - Freshman right-side hitter Olivia Lohmeier recorded 17 kills and zero errors, while junior middle Karlee Reynolds notched a season-best 10 blocks as the Morehead State volleyball team upended visiting Eastern Kentucky 3-1 Tuesday at Wetherby Gym.
The Eagles improved to 14-14 overall and 5-10 in the OVC, while EKU slipped to 12-17 overall and 10-5 in the league. MSU won 25-15, 17-25, 26-24, 25-17. The teams split the season series, and the win ended an eight-match losing skid to the Colonels.
Lohmeier pounded in her career best in kills on just 24 swings for a career-best .708 hitting percentage while also adding four aces and three blocks. Combined with Lohmeier, junior middle Maddie Fella added six kills and no errors for a near-perfect 23-kill effort from the duo.
Jones tied her career-high with 46 assists and added seven digs and three blocks. The Eagles tied a season-high (which had been set Saturday at Jacksonville State) with 15 team blocks. Freshman outside hitter Liz Allen also contributed to a .273 hitting night for the team with a season-best .333 performance on six kills and just two errors - both late in the fourth set.
Reynolds, who ranked among the best in the league last year with 135 blocks, assisted on nine rejections tonight and had one solo swat.
Freshman Lauren Rokey chipped in 13 kills and nearly had a double-double with nine digs.
EKU libero Chloe Rojas led all players with 16 digs.
The Eagles raced out to a early lead on the strength of 15 kills and just three errors (.444) in the opening set, but then cooled off. The second set saw MSU hit in the negative with seven kills and 10 errors. The hosts got going again in the third with 17 kills and just five errors (.387) and finished thr Colonels off by hitting .375 (12 kills, three errors) in the finale.
