MURRAY, Ky. - The Murray State bats came alive Thursday afternoon at Johnny Reagan Field as the Racers scored a season-high 22 runs and pounded out a season-best 21 hits as they defeated Kentucky State, 22-0.
MSU (6-2) mashed eight extra-base hits in the win including four home runs. Adam Bauer hit his first two long balls of the season in the win while Jack Hranec and Ryan Perkins also went deep. Bauer led the Racers with five RBI on the day while Perkins had a team-best three runs.
Both Justin and Ryan Perkins had three-hit days against the Thorobreds (4-13) with Justin driving in three and Ryan collecting two ribbies. Bryan Chilton, in his first career start for MSU went 3-for-3 with two runs and four RBIs on the day. Tyler Lawrence and Ramsey Scott both went 2-for-2 at the dish and Davis Sims also had a multi-hit day in the win.
A Lawrence double to right center in the bottom of the first got the Racers on the board quickly and from there, the offense really turned it on as MSU scored multiple runs in four of the next seven innings, including a six-run fifth and an eight-run sixth to go up 20-0.
Caleb Arbeiter got the start and the victory on the mound as he had his best outing in a Racer uniform on Thursday. Arbeiter pitched six innings and allowed just one hit while striking out three. Arbeiter's no-hit bid was broken up with one out in the top of the sixth. Hranec, Justin Perkins and Derrik Watson all pitched an inning each of relief and all three recorded a pair of strikeouts.
