EASTERN KENTUCKY 9, ALCORN STATE 0; EASTERN KENTUCKY 12, ALCORN STATE 4
LORMAN, Miss. –
Eastern Kentucky swept Alcorn State Tuesday in a road doubleheader.  EKU won the first game 8-0 in six innings and won the second game 12-4.

In game one, the Colonels manufactured three runs in the top of the first inning.  After a triple by Krislyn Campos to lead off the game, Mia Sanchez brought her home with a single to left field.  With Sanchez on second after a stolen base, Johnkyria Alston singled to right to make it 2-0.  Alston advanced to third on an error on the play and then scored on a ground ball.

Eastern closed out the game with five runs combined in the fifth and sixth innings.  Amber Murray had a two-out, two-run single in the top of the fifth.  Alston drove in two more runs with a double in the sixth.

Alex Sallberg (2-6) pitched six shutout innings.  She allowed just two hits, walked one batter and struck out nine.  Alston finished 2-for-4 with a run and three RBIs.  Sanchez and Rachel Minogue both scored two runs.

The Colonels fell behind 2-1 after the first inning of game two, but came back quickly.  Murray had a two-run triple in the top of the second to put her team in front 3-2.  Eastern pulled away with four runs in the fourth inning.  Sarah Jackson drove in a run with a single through the left side.  Three batters later Sanchez platted two runners with a single up the middle.  Minogue capped it with an RBI single to right for a 7-2 lead.

Four Colonels finished with three hits each.  Campos went 3-for-5 with three runs scored.  Sanchez was 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.  Minogue had three hits in four at bats and drove in three.  Murray had a 3-for-4 game with two runs and three RBIs.

Sallberg (3-6) pitched the first four innings of game two, allowing two unearned runs on four hits and striking out four.

JACKSONVILLE STATE 5, WINTHROP 3
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. -
The Jacksonville State softball team kept bouncing back against Winthrop on Tuesday before eventually pulling off a 5-3 win at University Field.

The Eagles (11-13) jumped on the Gamecocks (15-7) twice early on, but JSU was able to rally back both times before finally taking the lead for good in the fifth inning. Once the lead was on JSU's side of the board, junior Whitney Gillespie was brilliant in shutting down the Winthrop bats don the stretch.

Winthrop grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and a 3-1 lead in the second, only to watch the Gamecocks battle back and tie the game in both instances. Anna Chisolm answered the first inning call with her speed, legging out a double and then stealing third and scoring on an overthrow by the catcher.

After the Eagles got two more on JSU starter Taylor West in the second, junior Taylor Rogers cut that deficit in half with her first collegiate homer. The Sand Rock native's solo blast cleared the wall in left center and brought her team within a run again.

Taylor Sloan got her first of two RBI in the game in the third to tie the game at 3-3, another run that came as a result of Chisolm's speed. After a bunt single started the inning and a Cadi Oliver bunt moved the sophomore to second, a wild pitch put her on third and set up Sloan's RBI line drive single to right.

The Gamecocks finally grabbed the lead in the fifth on Jamie McGuire's double to left that score pinch runner Torre Roberts, and they tacked on an insurance run in the sixth on a Sloan sac fly to right that drove in Emily Woodruff.

While the JSU bats were putting runs on the board, Gillespie (6-3) was keeping the Eagles off of the bases to earn the win in relief. The Pelham native tossed the final five innings, allowing just two hits and striking out seven without allowing a run. West gave up three runs, only one earned, in two innings in the circle.

Winthrop's Keleigh Romine started the game but didn't last long after a Sloan line drive ricocheted off her foot and into center field. Sabrina Shroades (2-1) entered with one out in the first and allowed three runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings of relief. Kiley Majette tossed the final two frames and allowed one run on one hit.

Sloan was 2-for-3 and Chisolm 2-for-4 to lead the JSU offensive attack, while Sloan's two RBI also led the team. Chisolm and McGuire doubled, while Rogers homered in the win.

JSU will be back at home on Wednesday at 4 p.m. against Western Kentucky in a single game at University Field.

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 6, GEORGIA TECH 1
ATLANTA, Ga. -  Freshman Rachel Anderson narrowly missed hitting for the cycle and Madeline Krumrey threw a complete game gem to lead Southeast Missouri (14-5) to a 6-1 win over Georgia Tech (8-16) Tuesday at Mewborn Field.

Anderson, who leads the Ohio Valley Conference in batting average, fell a double shy of the cycle. She finished at 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a home run, triple and three RBIs.

SEMO once again grabbed an early lead in the top of the first inning when Anderson tripled home Brooke Rheinecker and later scored on a wild pitch.

After Mykaela Arellanes drew a leadoff walk and stole second to begin the third inning, Anderson homered over the right field wall to push the Redhawks lead to 4-0. For Anderson, it was her team-high third round-tripper of the season.

SEMO continued to pour it on in the fourth inning, this time using a two-RBI double by Parker Bandy to widen its lead to 6-0.

Krumrey, who retired the first eight hitters she faced, no-hit Georgia Tech for five innings. She matched a season-high five strikeouts en route to improving to 8-2 for the year. Krumrey also tossed her team-high fifth complete game.

Emily Anderson (1-7) suffered the loss. Anderson gave up four runs on four hits, walked two and struck out three in two innings. Brooke Barfield walked five and struck out seven in five innings of relief.

Offensively, SEMO had six hits, with Anderson accounting for half. Rheinecker, Bandy and Sarah Messex combined for the other three.

The Redhawks, who are on a three-game winning streak, head to Kennesaw State Wednesday.
