MARSHALL 8, MOREHEAD STATE 0
HUNTINGTON, W. Va. -
Morehead State softball fell at Marshall, 8-0, in five innings on Tuesday afternoon.

With the loss, the Eagles' record moves to 18-10 on the season, while Marshall improves to 25-4.

The Thundering Herd got a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout and then added four more runs in the bottom of the second to extend their lead. Marshall then tacked on three more runs in the fourth, just one of which was earned.

Junior Chelsea McManaway (10-5, 1.26) picked up the loss for the Eagles, allowing nine hits and eight runs, just six of which were earned, in four innings of work. She walked one and struck out seven.

Morehead State managed just three walks in the contest.

The Eagles return to conference play when they travel to face Tennessee State on Saturday at 2 and 4:30 p.m. ET.

JACKSONVILLE STATE 4, ALABAMA STATE 0
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. -
Taylor West tossed a two-hit shutout to lift the Jacksonville State softball team to a 4-0 win over Alabama State in midweek action at University Field on Tuesday.

The senior from Anniston needed just 89 pitches to notch her fifth complete game and second shutout of the season. West faced just 23 batters in guiding the Gamecocks (22-9) to their second win over the Hornets (9-21) this season.

Senior Cadi Oliver was 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored, while also drawing a walk for JSU at the plate. Freshman Alexus Jimmerson drove in a pair of runs, while she and sophomore Anna Chisolm each scored once in the win.

West (9-4) allowed just two baserunners and retired the last 14 batters she faced and struck out four in an efficient outing in the circle. Her 44th career win ties her with Carly Kellam (2005-06) for fifth on the school's career wins list.

JSU staked her to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, thanks to a one-out double down the left field line by Oliver that set up an RBI grounder from Jimmerson, who later scored on a wild pitch.

Jimmerson drove in the next run on a single up the middle that scored Chisolm in the fifth, a play that also brought around Oliver when center fielder Valerie Centeno airmailed a throw to the backstop.

JSU got all four runs off of ASU starter Justine Jean (2-8), who allowed just one earned run on five hits in 4.2 innings of work. Charlene Castro allowed a walk in 1.1 innings of hitless relief.

The midweek win sets JSU up for a big matchup at home on Wednesday against No. 24 Ole Miss. The Rebels will visit University Field for a 5 p.m. game.
