TENNESSEE TECH 3, #15 FLORIDA STATE 1
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.
- OVC Tournament MVP Ryan Flick doubled in two runs in the top of the ninth to break a 1-1 tie as Tennessee Tech topped host Florida State on the opening day of the 2017 NCAA Tallahassee Regional.

Tennessee Tech (41-19), the top home run hitting team in the nation, was able to do it with its pitching on Friday, holding Florida State (39-21), ranked No. 15 nationally and the No. 1 seed for this regional, scoreless through five innings. The Seminoles would finally scratch in the sixth inning on a two-out single.

But that is the only run Tech would allow, as All-OVC selection Michael Wood allowed just four hits over six innings while striking out two.

And just as he did in the OVC Tournament, Travis Moths followed Wood to the mound and was perfect over the final three innings. Moths did not allow a base runner and struck out four of the nine batters he faced in improving to 5-1 on the year.

The Golden Eagles got on the board with a Nick Osborne RBI double in the eight inning prior to Flick's runs in the final frame.

Florida State used three pitchers in the ninth inning after starter Drew Parrish had allowed just two hits over the first 7.1 innings.

2016 OVC Player of the Year Kevin Strohschein had two hits for TTU.

Tennessee Tech is back in action on Saturday when they play Auburn, ranked No. 23 nationally, at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN3. Auburn topped nationally-ranked Central Florida earlier on Friday.
