EASTERN KENTUCKY 0, CHATTANOOGA 0
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team battled Chattanooga to a scoreless draw on a hot Sunday afternoon at Finley Stadium.
Two days after scoring three goals in a win over Austin Peay, UTC (1-0-1) was stifled by the EKU defense. Senior goalkeeper Anna Hall made three saves to earn her first clean sheet of the season, and the 17th of her career. Junior defenders Kacy Eckley and Haley Kemper played all 110 minutes of the double-overtime match.
EKU (0-1-1) tallied four shots on goal, compared to just three for the host Mocs. Senior forward Jordan Foster led EKU with four shots, while freshman defender Katie Shaffer and senior forward Emmi Carroll each contributed two.

MURRAY STATE 2, MARSHALL 0
MURRAY, Ky. - The reigning Ohio Valley Conference women's soccer regular season champions took the first step to repeating their success, as Murray State (1-0) defeated Marshall (0-2) 2-0 on home turf at Cutchin Field in Murray, Kentucky.
The Racers controlled the pace of play, bringing the action to the Thundering Herd for the majority of the game, with 21 total shots and 14 of those being on target.
Two-time OVC Player of the Year Harriet Withers scored her first goal of the season and the first for the Racers at the 51 minute mark, sending a dart to the upper right corner of the goal to give Murray a 1-0 advantage.

With the two goals in the match, Withers picked up her fourth brace of her career, seeing one in each of her now four seasons.
Solid defense and goaltending complimented the strong offensive attack. The Thundering Herd were only able to put three shots on Alex Steigerwald, who picked up her first clean sheet of the year and the 12th of her career, tying her with Karen Fitzharris for second most by a Racer all-time.

JACKSONVILLE STATE 3, ALABAMA STATE 1
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Jacksonville State erased a deficit in the second half with three goals to register the first victory of the season with a 3-1 win over in-state foe Alabama State in the home opener on Sunday at the JSU Soccer Field.
The Gamecocks finished the opening weekend of competition with a 1-1 mark after dropping the season opener to Alabama in Tuscaloosa on Friday night. The Hornets of ASU dropped to 0-2 on the season.
ASU took advantage of a slow start by the Gamecocks with a goal two minutes in to the contest. ASU's Inma Martinez was able to get the ball past the JSU back line to set up Ariela Lewis for the goal. That shot would be just one of two in the opening half for ASU and the visitors from Montgomery finished with just five total attempts.
The Gamecocks controlled the tempo for the rest of the 85 minutes of the contest, registering 14 of their 22 total shots in the opening half. Jax State posted eight shots in the second half, connecting on three of those.
JSU equalized in the 59th minute as sophomore Cheyenne Carden delivered a goal off of a cross from senior Kayla Thompson. Thompson dribbled past ASU from the left side to find Carden, who put it in the far right corner of the net.
With momentum from equalizing the contest, Jax State tallied the game-winning goal and an insurance goal within two minutes of each other. JSU was awarded a penalty kick after an ASU foul on a JSU scoring run. Junior Claire Petersen took the penalty shot, which was blocked by ASU's Gianna Guyot, but the deflection went right back to Petersen for the goal in the 78th minute. She led the Gamecocks with five shot attempts.
Petersen, from Hermon, Maine, found herself involved in the final goal of the day in the 80th minute. Petersen was credited with an assist on sophomore Danielle Monroe's scoring kick.

AUSTIN PEAY 2, MIDDLE TENNESSEE 1
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - McKenzie Dixon scored in the first minute of double overtime as Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team notched its first win of 2017, 2-1, against Middle Tennessee at the Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium.
Having battled slow starts in its last two outings, Austin Peay (1-1) reversed that trend at Middle Tennessee. In the third minute, the Governors put three shots on goal in succession, freshman Claire Larose capped the rally by gathering in a deflected shot and put it past the MTSU goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead.
Middle Tennessee (0-2) surprised the Govs in the 27th minute with a quick counterattack. Goalkeeper Sydney Shelcraft stopped an Austin Peay shot and punted the ball down the field. Peyton DePriest gathered the ball and raced the rest of the way and scored the game-tying goal.
The Blue Raiders had Austin Peay hemmed into their own end for most of the rest of the half, earning four corner kicks in the final 18 minutes. Depriest would get another shot to give MTSU the lead but Governors goalkeeper Lindsey Todd turned the shot aside in the half’s final minute.
After a quiet start to the second half, Austin Peay put together a flurry of action beginning in the 69th minute. In a span of four minutes the Govs took four shots at the Blue Raiders net, forcing two saves. That was the only dangerous action in the half as the game remained tied through the end of regulation.
The Governors controlled the first overtime period with two shots at the MTSU net while the Blue Raiders could not put a shot toward the APSU net. In the second overtime, Austin Peay charged down the field and forced a corner kick. On the ensuing action, Renee Semann passed the ball to Dixon, who put it past the Blue Raiders goalkeeper for the win.
After putting up 15 shots in its opener, Austin Peay put up another 14 shots against Middle Tennessee, seven of those on goal. After the Blue Raiders pieced together a 9-6 edge in shots through the first half, Austin Peay dominated the second half and overtime by an 8-5 shot advantage.
Todd was credited with three saves in the victory while facing 11 shots (five on goal) and picked up the win.
Austin Peay now turns its focus to a three-match homestand, beginning with a 7 p.m., Friday home-opening contest against Western Kentucky (1-1).
SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 3, ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 0
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri (2-0) picked up a 3-0 shutout of Illinois Springfield in Sunday evening's home opener.
The win comes on the heels of a shutout of Evansville on Friday to open the season. This is only the fourth time in program history Southeast has recorded back-to-back shutouts to begin the season (2001, 2002, 2014). The record is six-straight shutouts in 2001 to begin the season.
A crowd of 846 flocked to Houck Field Sunday evening. The crowd ranks second-most for a soccer game at Houck. The Redhawks set the attendance record (1,137) a season ago against UIS in the home opener.
The offense and defense were strong again in game two as SEMO recorded 18 shots and only allowed five. Southeast put 11 shots on goal while UIS only had one.
Senior Maggie Pike guided the Redhawks to the win as she recorded her first career multi-goal game. Esmie Gonzales led the Redhawk offense with five shots, placing three on goal.
In her NCAA debut, goalkeeper Maddie Gleeson picked up her first career win and her first solo shutout in the complete 90 minutes. The redshirt-freshman needed to only fend off one shot on goal.
Courtney Johnson suffered the loss in goal after allowing the three goals. She made eight saves.
Jennifer Brien netted her first career goal in the seventh minute to put SEMO on the board. Brien fought off a Prairie Star defender just outside the keeper box, turned, and fired the shot dead center in the net.
The Redhawk lead was added to in the 36th minute when Pike netted an unassisted goal. Pike drove the ball down the field and fired a blistering shot into the back of the net to widen the lead to 2-0.
Just minutes later, in the 39th minute, Katie Lever was fouled in the box to render a Redhawks penalty kick. Pike stepped in and buried the PK for her second goal of the evening to make it 3-0.
At half and with SEMO out in front 3-0, the Redhawks led in shots 11-1, putting eight on goal. Gonzales led the squad with four shots, three on goal.
The Redhawks and Prairie Stars played a scoreless second half as the Redhawks held the comfortable lead to zeros.
Southeast will continue its homestand this weekend when Milwaukee and Green Bay come to Cape Girardeau. The Redhawks host Milwaukee Friday at 6:30 p.m. for Take a Kid to the Game. Green Bay closes out the homestand Sunday at 1.
TENNESSEE TECH 1, EAST TENNESSEE STATE 0
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - A year after setting the school record with 11 shutouts, the Tennessee Tech soccer team tallied its first blanking in just the second match of the season, as the Golden Eagles captured a 1-0 win at East Tennessee State Sunday evening. Junior goalkeeper Kari Naerdemann collected eight saves, while a Nora Vicsek goal in the 48th minute proved to be the difference in TTU's first victory of the year.
Tech's win over ETSU, the Southern Conference's preseason No. 2, marked the first victory over the Buccaneers (1-1-0) since 2013. The Golden Eagles had gone 0-2-1 in the last three meetings with their in-state counterparts.
Vicsek's game-winner, already the fifth in only a year and change for the sophomore, was part of a sturdy offensive attack that featured 23 Golden Eagle shots, a resilient performance after notching just five attempts in Friday night's season opener at Vanderbilt. Tech (1-1-0) eclipsed the 20-shot plateau twice in 21 matches in 2016.
After the scoreboard was kept dim with a 0-0 deadlock at the half, Tech wasted no time in setting the tone in the second stanza. A shade over two and a half minutes into the period, freshman Viviana Lomeli slid along the sideline to somehow keep a through ball in play, before connecting with Viscek along the corner of the right side of the box. After cradling the ball with her back to the net, Vicsek whipped around and beamed one inside the left post that illuminated the back of the net for TTU's first score of the year. Lomeli earned her first career assist on the aggressive, athletic play that lit the way for Vicsek.
The goal was one of 11 shots on-goal for Tech, casting a shadow over ETSU's eight shots on-point. Lomeli, Cassidy Ortman and Dani Shartouny led the charge with a team-best two shots on-goal each, while Shartouny's five shots were the most in the match.
Kari Naerdemann and the rest of the Tech defense came up big in turning off the lights on ETSU's attack, with Naerdemann blocking off eight Buccaneer tries en route to her 19th career shutout, further extending the Herne, Germany native's program record.
ETSU junior goalkeeper Lee Ann Cutshall secured 10 saves, a bright spot for the Bucs, who suffered their first loss of the season after registering an 8-0 win over South Carolina State Friday night. Juniors Eleonora Goldoni and Pauline Vienne led the team with four shots apiece. The Buccaneers took 14 shots in the match.
Tech will now set its sights on the home opener, set for Sunday, Aug. 27 against Western Carolina. First kick is slated for a 1 p.m. CT.
EVANSVILLE 2, UT MARTIN 1
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - UT Martin fell at Evansville, 2-1, on Sunday night. The Skyhawks fall to 1-1 on the season.
After the Purple Aces scored the game's first goal late in the first half, UT Martin's Nicole Collins found the back of the net off an assist by Katelyn Colvin to tie the game at 1-1.
With less that two minutes remaining the regulation, Evansville would score the game-winning goal.
UT Martin will be back in action on Friday when it hosts UAB.
