NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Belmont (6-8-2, 4-5-1 OVC) defeated Southeast Missouri (4-8-3, 2-4-3 OVC), 2-1, in double overtime Thursday at Rose Park.
The first goal of the contest was by the Redhawks when Esmie Gonzales scored on a header from Jordan Nelson in the last two minutes of the first half.
Gonzales was fouled right outside the box and received a free kick to set up the goal. Jermima Job took the kick and passed it to Nelson who was on the right side of the field. Nelson made a pass to Gonzales who headed the ball into the net.
The Bruins tied the game with 11 minutes remaining in regulation off a goal by Julie Garst. The ball crossed Redden and sailed into the net.
The game-winner came during the second overtime at the 100th minute mark on a header by Emily Nguyen. Nguyen scored off of pass from Gentry Davis that was tipped into play by Julie Garst.
