TROY 92, TENNESSEE STATE 67
TROY, Ala. - The Tennessee State women’s basketball team dropped a, 92-67, decision to Troy Friday afternoon in Trojan Arena.
TSU (0-3) nearly matched Troy (2-1) point-for-point in the second half but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit built in the first two quarters.
Taylor Roberts led TSU with 21 points while Tia Wooten finished with 16. Jaden Wrightsell pulled down a team-best nine rebounds in the contest.
Troy had five players reach double figures in scoring led by Amber Rivers’ 19.
TSU will return to Nashville to face SEC opponent Vanderbilt on Wednesday, Nov. 21. Game time is slated for noon in Memorial Coliseum.
MOREHEAD STATE 68, VALPARAISO 62
MOREHEAD, Ky. - Senior guard Miranda Crockett scored a career-high of 30 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as Morehead State women's basketball grinded out a 68-62 victory over Valparaiso in the Vinewood Farm Classic on Friday evening at Johnson Arena.
The All-Ohio Valley Conference guard knocked down 10-of-16 shots from the field and sank 10-of-11 shots from the charity stripe. Crockett's previous career-best was 28 against Lipscomb in a 75-55 win on December 12, 2017.
Despite Crockett's efforts, the Eagles found themselves in a battle from the opening tip with a Crusaders squad that entered the evening 0-3. Morehead State trailed 36-34 at the halftime buzzer after allowing Valpo's offense to hit seven triples.
The Eagles gave up only two more three-pointers to the visitors and held the Crusaders to 8-of-25 (.320) shooting in the second half as they pulled out the win.
Morehead State had a very efficient night offensively, shooting 26-of-52 (.500) but turned the ball over 25 times.
Joining Crockett with double-digit scoring figures was senior guard Crystal Simmons-Cozar with 12 points. Simmons-Cozar was 5-of-6 (.833) from the field and tied Darianne Seward for a team-best four assists.
Junior guard Aliyah Jeune, who is the reigning OVC Player & Newcomer of the Week, cooled off offensively as she tallied just seven points after opening the season with back-to-back 28-point outings.
Crockett has now scored in double figures the first three games of the season. The Martinsville, Virginia, native is averaging 24 points and eight assists per game.
Morehead State improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2005-06 with the win.
The Crusaders fell to 0-4 on the season.
The Eagles jump right back into action Saturday as the Vinewood Farm Classic rolls on at Johnson Arena. Morehead State will take on Chicago State at 5:05 p.m. ET and the game will be streamed live on ESPN +.
