The Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Year were announced on Thursday as voted on by the league’s head coaches. Six different institutions were represented by the winners.
Eastern Kentucky’s Jamaine Coleman was named the Male Athlete of the Year while Southeast Missouri’s Jonno Engelking and SIUE’s Julian Harvey shared the Male Field Athlete of the Year honors. Eastern Illinois’ Tadiwa Mohnde earned Male Freshman of the Year honors. Tennessee Tech’s Micayla Rennick was named the Female Athlete of the Year while Eastern Illinois’ Haleigh Knapp was tabbed the Female Field Athlete of the Year. Austin Peay’s Morgan Bradley was named the Female Freshman of the Year.
Coleman holds the top time in the OVC this year in the 5,000-meters with a time of 13:30.80. His 3,000-meter steeplechase time of 8:42.21 is also first in the OVC.
Engelking recorded the best javelin throw mark in the Conference this year. His toss of 232-05 is also ranked 11th in the nation.
Harvey is first in the OVC in the long jump with leap of 25-04. He is also second in the league with a 6-11.50 high jump mark .
Mhonde holds the top time in the 100-meter with a time of 10.65. He also ranks second in the 200 meters with a time of 21.45.
Rennick owns the top times in the OVC in the 800 meters (2:09.37), 5,000 meters (16:30.27), 10,000 meters (34:25.22). She also ranks second in the OVC in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:20.92.
Knapp ranks first in the OVC this year in the high jump with a mark of 5-11.50. That mark also ranks 11th in the NCAA this year.
Bradley is third in the Conference in the pole vault with a mark of 12-08.25.
The awards were announced in advance of the 2018 OVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships that will be held May 10-12 on the campus of Tennessee Tech.
