JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team scored three unanswered goals to storm back and beat East Tennessee State, 3-1, on the road on Tuesday evening.
It was EKU’s (1-1) first win of the 2018 season.
The Colonels fell in an early hole when ETSU’s Eleonora Goldoni scored from eight yards out in the 15th minute to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
EKU finally leveled less than a minute before halftime, as senior Kacy Eckley headed in a corner kick from junior Monica Rios.
The Colonels rode that wave of momentum into the second half. Junior Erin Torrence put Eastern ahead in the 61st minute, burying a shot from 18 yards out to make it 2-1. Sophomore Kylie Thompson earned the assist on the play.
Senior Idalys Rea added an insurance goal in the 85th minute, scoring her first career goal off a lob pass from Torrence.
EKU outshot ETSU (0-2), 15-6, on the night. Torrence led all players in the game with four shots, while Rea came off the bench to attempt three.
Eckley and sophomore Katie Shaffer played all 90 minutes on EKU’s backline.
Sophomore Billie Clark played the first half in goal for the Colonels, allowing one goal and making two saves. Freshman Zoe Aguirre made her collegiate debut in the second half and held the Bucs scoreless.
EKU returns to action on Friday when the Colonels host Ball State in their home opener at 4 p.m.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri fell to visting Missouri State, 1-0, on Tuesday night. The Redhawks fall to 0-2 on the young season.
Junior Esmie Gonzales led the team with four shots, including three on goal.
Southeast Missouri will be back in action when it host Illinois-Springfield. Gametime is set for 6:30 p.m. CT.
