RICHMOND, Ky. - Hailey Block's team-high fourth goal of the season was the difference as Southeast Missouri (8-4, 5-1) shutout Eastern Kentucky (4-10, 2-4), 1-0, in rainy conditions Friday.
Block, who has scored a goal in three-straight games, placed the ball in the low right part of the net off a pass from Jennifer Brien during the 26th minute of play. The game-winner sent SEMO to its second-straight shutout and third this year.
Although the Redhawks were outshot, 11-9, SEMO held a 4-1 advantage in shots on goal. Block and Lauren Welker each finished with two shots apiece.
Senior Marian Wolski and sophomores Lauren Barcelona and Sarah Owusu paced EKU (4-10, 2-4 OVC) with two shots apiece in the game. Freshman Ali Kirk attempted the Colonels’ only shot on goal. Junior center back Katie Shaffer played all 90 minutes on the Colonel backline, while junior goalkeeper Billie Clark made three saves in the net.
UT MARTIN 2, MOREHEAD STATE 1
MOREHEAD, Ky. - Goals by the junior pair of Bella Roberts and Alice Adams lifted the University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team to a 2-1 Ohio Valley Conference road victory at Morehead State on Friday evening.
The Skyhawks (5-5-4, 3-2-1 OVC) passes the first test of the always difficult Death Valley road swing with a 2-1 road victory. UT Martin would tally 13 shots on the evening while the trio of Roberts, Adams and Jill Hildreth each tallied a pair of shots on goals.
Neither team would get on the board until just prior to the halftime break as Roberts found an assist from Elin Berggren who headed the ball past the keeper to put the Skyhawks on the board in the 44th minute. The Skyhawks would strike again in the opening minutes of the second half as Adams struck a rolling shot past the diving keeper to give the road team a two-goal advantage in the 50th minute. Morehead State would later add a goal from Nicole Palmer to cut the deficit in half in the 88th minute courtesy of a penalty kick, but would not find the equalizer.
Junior goalkeeper Erica Myers picked up her 21st career victory and fifth of the season. Myers tallied five saves between the posts while allowing one goal off a PK.
AUSTIN PEAY 3, JACKSONVILLE STATE 2
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Austin Peay defeated Jacksonville State, 3-2, in double overtime in Jacksonville on Friday night. The Govs improved to 3-7-3 overall and 2-3-1 in OVC play while the Gamecocks fell to 3-11 overall and 0-6 in league action.
Jacksonville State got on the board firs as Cynthia Boagozzi scored in the 10th minute of the contest. The Gamecocks' Cheyenne Carden scored just over seven minutes after halftime to give JSU the 2-0 lead.
Less than a minute later, Austin Peay's Rachel Braderry scored the first of her two goals on the night to get the Govs on the board. She would score again at the 65:33 mark to tie the game.
Neither team would score in the first overtime. With less than a minute in the second overtime, Morgan Drawdy scored to give APSU the win.
TENNESSEE TECH 3, MURRAY STATE 0
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee Tech handed visitnig Murray State its first OVC loss of the season with a 3-0 win on Friday night.
The Golden Eagles got on the board early in the first half as Rachel Blow found the back of the net. Less than eight minutes later Kendall Powell scored the first of her two goals to put Tech up 2-0. Powell would find the back of the net again late in the second half. She now has four goals on the year.
Murray State was led by Miyah Waftord with five shots and three shots on goal.
Tennessee Tech goalkeeper Isabella Austin made nine saves to earn the shutout.
Jamie Skarupsky and Jasmine Rosell split time in goal for Murray State, each making one stop.
