UT MARTIN 2, SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 2
MARTIN, Tenn. -
It was a hard-earned point today for the University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team, as the Skyhawks came away with a tie against Ohio Valley Conference leader Southeast Missouri at Skyhawk Field.

UT Martin (6-5-5, 4-2-2 OVC) held a pair of leads this afternoon before settling for the draw. Bella Roberts (24th minute) and Catey Hunt (49th minute) provided the Skyhawk goals as UT Martin outshot the visitors by a 28-27 margin – including an 11-2 difference in both overtime periods.

Jill Hildreth led the way with a match-high seven shots for the Skyhawks, placing five attempts on goal. Roberts and Alice Adams each managed five shots apiece for UT Martin, who combined for 12 shots on goal.

In goal, Skyhawk junior Erica Myers corralled 10 saves - marking the second time this season that the Holland, Ohio native tallied double-digit stops. She came away with five saves in the first period and five saves in the second stanza.

Hildreth, Adams and Maria Castaldo each accounted for shots on goal in the first 18 minutes of the match. Myers kept Southeast Missouri (9-4-1, 6-1-1 OVC) off the scoreboard by notching four saves in the opening 20 minutes before UT Martin broke through for the first score of the match.

Roberts received a high-arching pass from the left side and rose above the crowd for a header that found the back of the net at the 23:06 mark. Adams was credited with her third assist of the season as Roberts secured her third goal of the 2019 campaign.

The Skyhawk advantage was short-lived as the Redhawks answered with a penalty kick goal by Hailey Block in the 25th minute, evening the score at 1-all.

Each side tallied one more shot on goal in the first half but Myers and Southeast Missouri goalkeeper Bailey Redden both handled saves to keep the halftime score at 1-1.

UT Martin grabbed a 2-1 lead at the 48:54 mark as a foul in the box set up Hunt for a penalty kick goal. It was the second score of the season for the freshman out of McDonough, Ga.

The Skyhawks threatened to extend their lead a little over five minutes later but Hildreth’s shot on goal was saved. Myers answered with her first save of the second half at the 60:01 mark.

The Redhawks tied the match at 2-2 after an acrobatic goal by Esmie Gonzales in the 67th minute.

Myers was responsible for clutch saves in the 70th and 84th minutes to keep the score deadlocked at 2-all. UT Martin’s final shot on goal in regulation was off the foot of Adams at the 89:26 mark but Redden was there for the save.

The stingy Skyhawk defense held Southeast Missouri without a shot attempt in the first overtime period. Castaldo fired a contested shot on goal with just 1:22 remaining in the period but could not sneak it past Redden.

UT Martin continued its aggressive play in the second overtime with three shots on goal. Sophia Mankowski accounted for the first attempt at the 102:44 mark while Hildreth posted the other two shots (105:48 and 107:47) but Redden upped her save total to 10 as the match concluded in a draw.

MURRAY STATE 2, AUSTIN PEAY 1
MURRAY, Ky. -
Murray State defeated visiting Austin Peay, 2-1, in double overtime on Sunday. With the win the Racers improve to 9-7 overall and 6-2 in the OVC while the Govs drop to 4-8-3 overall and 3-4-1 in league play.

The Governors got the scoring started in the 17th minute when Whittaker beat the Murray State defense to an Anna McPhie through ball. Whittaker hit a chip shot to the far post just over the head of the Murray State keeper to give the Govs an early lead. The goal was the second of the season for Whittaker, and the third of her career. It was McPhie’s second assist of her freshman campaign.

In the 29th minute, Murray State's Arianna Mendez tied the match with the final goal of regulation. Powell made six first half saves to keep the score knotted up at one, and send it to the break tied. In the second half, Powell added another four saves, to send the match to overtime tied.

The Governors fired the only two shots of the first overtime, but neither Karley Roberts or Morgan Drawdy was able to best the Murray State keeper.

Powell made two saves to start the second overtime, but the Murray State attack was too much, and the Racers Abby Jones scored the game winner in the 105th minute. Powell made a season-best 11 saves, which is the second-highest single game save total of her career.

Murray State goalkeeper Jamie Skarupsky made five stops and gave up one goal in the win.
