Eastern Illinois women’s soccer picked up its first win of the Ohio Valley Conference season as the Panthers opened a five-match homestand on Friday afternoon with a 3-1 win over Jacksonville State at Lakeside Field.

EIU improved to 2-7-1 overall, 1-3-1 in the OVC.  JSU fell to 3-9 overall, 0-4 in the OVC.

The Panthers used an aggressive approach from the opening kick as they were able to get on the board in the 18th minute as senior Lindsey Carlson had her first career goal.  Lexi Ketterhagen sent a cross through the top of the box that Carlson found on the left side and redirected to the upper right corner for the goal.

Leading 1-0 at the half, EIU added an insurance goal in the 56th minute as Haylee Renick had a quick touch on two quick passes that set up the goal.  Pilar Barrio and Sarah DeWolf triggered the attack for EIU to collect assists.

JSU countered in the next minute scoring just 22 seconds after the Panthers second goal.  Emma Meadows dribbled down the middle of the pitch and had a quick pass to Cynthia Bagozzi who finished off the goal with a low shot from the top of the box.

Sara Teteak would stop the remaining shot on goal for JSU as the Gamecocks had seven total shots but only two on net.  EIU finished with 11 shots including eight on goal.

The final goal of the match came on an own goal as Barrio was pressuring in the box for an attack for EIU.  JSU attempted to clear the ball but instead misdirected the ball into their own net.

BELMONT 1, TENNESSEE TECH 0
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
Bringing hard-nosed defense to Tennessee Tech on Friday night, the Belmont women's soccer team came up with a 1-0 victory in front of a season-high 467 fans at Rose Park.

The victory marked the first time the Bruins defeated Tennessee Tech since 2014.

Belmont made it clear from kickoff that it was going to be a physical battle, with the Bruins committing four fouls in the first 20 minutes. That aggression, however, translated into tough defense in the first half.

The Bruins allowed Tennessee Tech's only two shots on goal opportunities in the first 45 minutes, resulting in two saves for senior goalkeeper Lily Herman.

Clements collected a career-high seven shots in last Sunday's match against Eastern Illinois, but none resulting in a score. She only needed one shot to come up with the deciding goal on Friday.

Off a free kick in the 49th minute, Kameron Ziesig kicked in the direction of the goal toward senior Mackenzie Firek. Firek quickly fed Clements for her first goal of the season and gave Belmont the 1-0 lead.

Ziesig logged her second assist of the season while MacKenzie Firek came up with her second career assist, her first since Oct. 27, 2016 at Jacksonville State. Clements recorded her third career goal, her first since Sept. 7, 2018 against UAB.

Belmont tackled the challenge of shutting down Tennessee Tech for the final 40 minutes, with the Golden Eagles getting the ball close to the penalty area throughout the course of the second half. The Bruins, however, limited the Golden Eagles to five shots, forcing them all off target, to collect its third win of the season and to remain undefeated at Rose Park.

Kendall Powell and Nora Vicsek combined for five of TTU's nine shots, paced by Powell's three attempts. The Cookeville product was also responsible for the club's two shots on-goal.
