EASTERN ILLINOIS 3, MOREHEAD STATE 0
CHARLESTON, Ill. -
Eastern Illinois women’s soccer closed out its best weekend of offensive soccer this season as the Panthers picked up a 3-0 win over Morehead State on Sunday afternoon at Lakeside Field.

EIU improved to 3-7-1 overall, 2-3-1 in the OVC.  Morehead State fell to 4-8-1 overall, 2-2-1 in the OVC.

Both teams applied offensive pressure early in the match as both EIU and MSU looked to get an early advantage in the contest.  EIU goalkeeper Sara Teteak made three saves in the opening period as Morehead State had seven corners in the opening half.  Morehead State had one additional chance go off the cross bar on a shot by Eva Kiper in the 11th minute.

EIU had three offsides called in the opening 15 minutes including one that wiped a goal off the board that was headed home by Pilar Barrio in the fifth minute.

EIU’s offensive pressure finally paid off just before halftime as Angela Corcoran took a pass from Eva Munoz and fired a high shot towards the goal.  The ball slipped over the hands of the MSU goalkeeper to put the Panthers up 1-0 in the 43rd minute.

EIU continued the attack just after that goal as they grabbed a free ball at midfield and quickly played it towards the net.  Itxaso Aguero played it through to Barrio who finished off a one-time shot for the goal just 26 seconds after the Panthers opening goal.

The Panthers would finish off the offensive attack in the opening ten minutes of the second half as Sarah DeWolf slipped a shot under a diving goalkeeper for the third tally.  Barrio picked up the assist on the goal.

Teteak would turn away one shot on goal in the second half as she posted her second shutout of the season.  It was 15th career shutout for Teteak who moved into second on the Panthers career shutouts list.

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 2, SOUTHERN ILLINOIS
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -
Hailey Block and Kennedy Jones each scored to lead Southeast Missouri (7-4) to a 2-0 shutout over rival Southern Illinois (4-8) Sunday afternoon on a rainy day at Houck Field.

Block scored her third goal in two games when she put SEMO ahead, 1-0, in the 18thminute of action. She took off up the middle from 30 yards out after Siena Senatore weaved the ball through defenders before putting the ball in the net.

Jones scored her first collegiate goal late in the game at the 87-minute mark to complete second shutout of the year. Esmie Gonzales was credited with the assist on the play.

SEMO registered 17 shots, including seven on goal, while SIU had eight for the afternoon. Bailey Redden saved all four of the Salukis shots on goal. The Redhawks had 10 corner kicks, as well.

Block and Gonzales combined to fire seven shots for the game, three of which were on goal.

The Redhawks, who have won two-straight and five of their last six games, return to Ohio Valley Conference play at Eastern Kentucky on Oct. 11.

TENNESSEE TECH 2, AUSTIN PEAY 1
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -
It seemed only fitting. The appropriate script for a pair of four-year Golden Eagles, playing on their Senior Day, in front of the hometown crowd for one of the last times in their lengthy and lofty careers.

On a day largely based on honoring the resumes of TTU's quartet of seniors, two provided the proper theatrics in a 2-1 victory for the Tennessee Tech soccer team over Austin Peay.

Trailing 1-0 late in regulation, Kaitie Shipley tied it in the 83rd minute. Moments later, Nora Vicsek won it in the 88th minute, completing a frenzied comeback that pushed the Golden Eagles (4-5-4, 2-1-2 OVC) into the win column with the club's second OVC nod of the 2019 campaign.

The late heroics by Shipley and Vicsek added to an already chaotic conclusion in the seesaw affair. The second stanza saw a combined nine cards, including red ones from both sides in the closing stages. In fact, Tech scored the game-winning goal with 10 players after receiving a red card in the 85th minute.

Despite playing with a player down, the Golden Eagles were unfazed. With less 2:30 remaining in regulation, Vicsek ended up in the box with possession, but was taken down by a Governor to set up the 5-foot-6 forward with a penalty kick and a chance to essentially capture the contest.

Cool, calm and collected, Vicsek split the pipes for her second goal of the season and ninth of her Tech tenure. The score was also Vicsek's sixth career game-winning goal to move her into sole possession of fourth place on the program's all-time list.

Shipley's net-finder in the 83rd minute saw the Barrie, Ontario native extend up the pitch from her normal defensive spot and bury a beauty that snuck just inside the far post. Shipley secured possession after collecting a pass from fellow senior Tina Marolt, who earned an assist on the game-tying goal.

Marolt's assists came a mere 42 seconds after the Smatevz, Slovenia product nearly squared the contest herself after drilling one off the cross bar early in the 83rd minute. The ricochet off the bar was then promptly headed by Shipley, but ultimately saved by APSU keeper Mary Parker Powell.

Shipley, Vicsek and Marolt, with her assist, all played pivotal roles on the offensive side of the equation, while Rachel Blow came up large on the defensive side of the spectrum to help round out TTU's senior showcase in the club's final home Sunday match of the regular season. Blow was one of five Golden Eagles to play all 90 minutes and helped lead a Tech defense that allowed only eight Austin Peay shots, highlighted by just two from the Govs (2-7-3, 1-3-1 OVC) in the second half.

Shipley ended up leading the match with four shots, two of which were on-goal. Renee Semaan and Melody Fisher paced APSU with two shots apiece, including Fisher's header that found the back of the net in the 51st minute.

The 5-foot-6 senior split the posts off of a corner from Claire Larose, with Larose earning an assist on the goal the unwrapped the scoring.

Isabelle Austin posted two saves in between the pipes, while Powell notched six stops for the Govs, including a pair of point-blank chances that nearly got the Golden Eagles on the board. Cassidy Bereda knocked one right off the APSU keeper from in close in the eighth minute and Kendall Powell lined a header off the Governor senior in the 59th minute off a TTU corner.

BELMONT 4, JACKSONVILLE STATE 1
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
The Jacksonville State soccer team wrapped up a weekend road trip with a 4-1 loss to Belmont on Sunday at E.S. Rose Park in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Bruins broke up a 1-1 deadlock with three goals in the final 34 minutes as Belmont's Niki Clements scored two of the three goals to collect a hat trick on the day. Clements put the first goal of the day in the opening half with a goal in the 23rd minute. After an own goal was awarded to Jax State to equalize in the 51st minute, Clements broke the tie five minutes later. Julie Garst squeezed in a goal between the three by Clements.

Belmont had a plus-nine advantage in total shots, 19-8, with JSU having six of its nine looks in the second half. Freshman Cynthia Bagozzi had two scoring chances after recording a goal in Friday's match at EIU. She leads the team in goals with four on the season.

The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team fell to first-place Murray State, 2-1, in double overtime on Sunday afternoon.

Murray State (8-5, 5-0 OVC) stayed unbeaten in the Ohio Valley Conference with the win, but it did not come easy. The Colonels took it to the Racers early, and a goal by sophomore Sarah Owusu in the 31st minute put Eastern on top, 1-0.
