MURRAY STATE 95, CHRISTIAN BROTHERS 59
MURRAY, Ky. - The Murray State women’s basketball used a big second half to take down Christian Brothers Friday night at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky, defeating the Buccaneers, 95-59, in the Racers’ home opener.
The Bucs kept pace with Murray State for the majority of the first half, trailing by just nine at the break. Brynne Lytle fueled CBU’s effort by going 9-for-12 from the floor en route to a 20-point opening two quarters.
However, at halftime MSU head coach Rechelle Turner’s directive to her team was to not allow Lytle another field goal and that is just what the Racers did. Lytle was 0-for-7 in the second half, scoring just two points off of free throws. Once MSU had Lytle shut down, the rest came easy. The Racers outscored the Bucs, 48-21, in the second on their way to a 36-point win.
All five starters not only reached double-digits in scoring for the Racers Friday, but all five were also over 50 percent scoring on the night. Macey Turley led Murray State with 21 points and eight assists, while Laci Hawthorne had 16 points and 13 rebounds, for her second double-double of the season. Macie Gibson notched 13 in the contest, while Alexis Burpo and Lex Mayes had 12 each with Burpo also pulling down nine boards.
Murray State returns to action at home Tuesday when it hosts Arkansas State at 6 p.m.
