. - Three Golden Eagles tallied double-digit scoring performances to help lead the Tech to an impressive 22-point victory over the Detroit Mercy Titans to close out the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout on Saturday at South Point Arena.

Tennessee Tech junior Mackenzie Coleman led the way for Tech with a game-high 18 points, shooting 70 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free throw line, and tying for a team-high eight rebounds, while senior Anacia Wilkinson added 14 points and grabbed eight boards. Tech's final double-digit scorer was junior Jordan Brock with 11 points on three 3-pointers and a pair of free throws in the contest.

Following a 9-7 Tech lead at the 7:33-minute mark of the opening period, the Golden Eagles outscored the Titans 13-4 through the end of the first quarter to take a 13-point lead after the first quarter. The Golden Eagles were on fire to open the contest, shooting 61.5 percent from the field and 60 percent from 3-point range.

Tech tacked on two more to hold a 30-15 lead at the halfway through the second quarter, but broke away through the end of the half as the Golden Eagles produced a 15-4 run over the final five minutes of play to take a comfortable 26-point lead into the locker room, 45-19.

Detroit Mercy came out gunning to open the second half as they worked their way to a 13-6 rally to bring the deficit back under 20, 51-32, at the first media timeout of the second half. With four minutes to play in the period, Tech locked in defensively as they held the Titans to only two more points in en route to a 10-2 rally to kick the lead back out to 27 heading into the final 10 minutes, 61-34.

The Golden Eagles rode their large lead through the remaining 10 minutes of the contest as they eventually claimed the 69-47 victory.

The Golden Eagles will return to the Tri-Star State as they travel to Nashville to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores on Thursday, December 5 at Memorial Gymnasium. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.

SOUTH ALABAMA 70, TENNESSEE STATE 48
MOBILE, Ala
. - The Tennessee State University women’s basketball team fell to South Alabama, 70-48, Saturday afternoon in the Mitchell Center. 

Untimely scoring droughts led to the Lady Tigers falling behind by double-digits at halftime. Despite a good start to the third quarter and nearly matching the Jaguars in scoring the last two periods, TSU was unable to get back into the game. 

Tennessee State (1-4) was led in scoring by Deaja Richardson. The freshman tallied a career-best 17 points and six steals in the contest. 

TSU finished the game shooting 35.7 percent from the field, including 36.4 percent from three-point range. 

USA (3-4) had three players to score in double-figures and won the battle of the boards, 50-33. 

MARYLAND 90, BELMONT 26
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla
. - The Belmont Bruins dropped 90-26 to the No. 9/10 ranked Maryland Terrapins in the final game of the Daytona Beach Invitational at the Ocean Center Saturday afternoon. 

Freshman Cam Browning led the Bruins (3-4) with six points and three rebounds, as senior Maddie Wright added four points and a team-high nine rebounds. Overall, five different Bruins recorded three or more rebounds in the game. 

Four players logged double-figure points for the Terrapins (7-1), while senior Kaila Charles propelled the squad with 20 points, five rebounds and a trio of assists.

ILLINOIS STATE 70, UT MARTIN 47
NORMAL ,Ill.
  - The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball could not overcome its shooting struggles on Saturday afternoon, dropping its fourth consecutive road contest by a score of 70-47 at Illinois State. 

The Skyhawks (2-4) saw its offensive woes on the road continue as the squad tallied its fourth straight road game shooting below 40 percent from the field. Outside of an explosive second quarter in which UT Martin shot 53.8 percent from the field, the Skyhawks managed to shoot just 27.9 percent for the other three quarters.

Junior forward Chelsey Perry led the Skyhawks with 14 points while tallying eight rebounds, three steals and three blocks in the contest. Fellow junior Tamiah Stanford rounded out the road squad in double figures with 10 points.
Illinois State (5-1) picked up its fourth straight victory by shooting 43.5 from the floor. The Redbirds would see four different players score in double figures, led by the play of Lexi Wallen with 20 points and 11 rebounds. 

Fellow standout TeTe Maggett nearly tallied a triple-double with 15 points, nine assists and eight rebounds in the contest. Mary Compton (12 points) and Megan Talbot (11 points) also scored in double figures for the Redbirds. 

The Redbirds would strike early in the game, holding a lead as large as eight points in the opening quarter before the Skyhawks began to chip away. Cutting the margin down the three points at the end of the first quarter, the Skyhawks responded by taking its first lead of the contest a minute into the second period before ultimately stretching the team’s lead out to as large as seven.

UT Martin would hold a three-point lead heading into the second half, but it was Illinois State which proved to control the final two quarters. After tying the contest early in the third quarter, the Redbirds controlled the tempo from there, outscoring the Skyhawks 37-11 in the second half to cruise to a 70-47 victory.

UT Martin will return to action with a matchup at regional rival Southern Illinois on Tuesday, Dec. 3. Tipoff from the Banterra Center is scheduled for 6 p.m.
