JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Alex Strachan singled home Nic Gaddis with one out in the 11th inning as Jacksonville State knocked off No. 7 ranked Georgia 9-8 on Wednesday.
It marked the second win over a nationally-ranked team for the Gamecocks (27-21) this season as JSU topped then No. 18 ranked Auburn 11-6 on April 9.
Jax State jumped out to a 7-2 lead after four innings before Georgia (37-13) scored five times in the fifth frame to tie the game.
UGA went ahead 8-7 in the top of the ninth on a RBI double by John Cable. But Strachan blasted a two-out solo home run to force extra innings.
Strachan finished the game 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI. Gaddis also had a trio of hits.
Cody Willingham (1-1) picked up the win by striking out two batters in the 11th inning. He was one of eight pitchers used by the Gamecocks on Wednesday.
