JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Freshman midfielder Eva Kiper scored her first-career goal in the 66th minute to help Morehead State Soccer earn a 1-0 victory against Ohio Valley Conference foe Jacksonville State on Sunday afternoon at JSU Soccer Complex.
The victory is the Eagles first against the Gamecocks on the road since a 2-1 double-overtime win on Sept. 29, 2013.
Freshmen goalkeepers Grace Gaffney and Kayla Landman recorded the combined clean sheet for the Eagles. Gaffney started the match and logged 55:12 before Landman entered and denied four shot attempts over the final 34:48 of the match.
Offensively, Morehead State outshot the Gamecocks 12-9 and struck six of those attempts on goal. Sophomore defender Nicole Palmer logged a team-best in both shots (3) and shots on goal (2).
Jacksonville State's Cynthia Bagozzi took a game-high six shots. In goal for the Gamecocks, keeper Morgan Lerch made five saves while allowing Kiper's goal.
JSU falls to 3-7 overall and 0-2 against OVC competition with the loss.
The win for Morehead State, which is its first road win in OVC play since Oct. 17, 2017, at Eastern Illinois, improved its record to 1-0-1 in league play. Overall, the Eagles raise their overall mark to 2-6-1.

Racer goalkeeper Jasmine Rosell made four saves to pick up the shutout.
TENNESSEE TECH 3, EASTERN KENTUCKY 1
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - A pair of second-half Cassidy Bereda goals helped pave the way for the Tennessee Tech soccer team, as the Golden Eagles sealed the deal on the first weekend of OVC play with a 3-1 win Sunday against Eastern Kentucky at Tech Soccer Field.
Bereda's first career two-score showing featured goals in the 66th and 89th minutes, with the sophomore's strikes aiding a Tech attack that produced a season-high three goals.
Eastern Kentucky (3-7-0, 1-1-0 OVC) outshot the Golden Eagles, 15-10, to snap a string of four consecutive contests in which Tech (3-4-3, 1-0-1 OVC) registered more attempts than the opposition. The shots on-goal were even at four apiece.
Bereda's first goal jumped the TTU advantage to 2-0 and was of the unassisted variety after the Bellbrook, Ohio native made an aggressive play on EKU keeper Zoe Aguirre in the 66th minute. With the ball attempting to be corralled by the Colonel keeper, Bereda found a way to wrestle it free and drill it into the back of the net.
EKU responded with a goal in the 80th minute on an unassisted Audrey Anderson goal, but Bereda and the TTU offense came right back with a score in the tilt's waning moments that put the match on ice. Senior Tina Marolt fed Bereda on a lengthy pass along the nearside, before Bereda went one-on-one with Aguirre and snuck one inside the far post to put the Golden Eagles in front 3-1.
Tech jumped on the board late in the opening half on a well-executed play that resulted in the first career goal by freshman Camre Peirau. With the match scoreless in the 43rd minute, freshman Meg Ivey served one to the far side of the box that was hauled in by Taylor Hornback. The sophomore then immediately roped one to Peirau, who poured it home for the affair's first goal. Ivey and Hornback both notched their first career assists on the score.
Red-shirt junior Isabelle Austin secured three saves in between the posts for her third career victory. Zoe Aguirre recorded one save across the way.
Bereda tied EKU's Marian Wolski for the most shots in the match with four attempts. Bailey Taylor was the only other Golden Eagle with more than one try behind a pair of shots.
Including Austin, five Golden Eagles played the entire 90 minutes. Rachel Blow, Macy Carter, Ashley Grimes and Kaitie Shipley joined their goalkeeping counterpart as Tech players to go the distance.
UT MARTIN 1, BELMONT 0
MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team pushed its unbeaten streak in Ohio Valley Conference play to 12 games behind a goal in the first minute to push past Belmont 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Skyhawks (3-3-4, 1-0-1 OVC) picked up their first OVC win of the season behind an early strike on offense and solid defensive play on the back end. UT Martin would strike quickly in the contest as Hendrikje Baurmann rebounded a save attempt off her own header before beating the keeper just 59 seconds into the game for her second goal of the season.
After the early goal, UT Martin relied heavily on the team’s defensive effort to record its second shutout of the weekend. The Skyhawks would outshoot the Bruins 16-11 in the game while allowing just five shots on goal.
