TENNESSEE TECH 2, APPALACHIAN STATE 1
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -
The Tennessee Tech soccer team unwrapped up its home slate on the right foot, as the Golden Eagles took advantage of two Bailey Taylor goals to help ignite the club to a 2-1 victory over Appalachian State Sunday afternoon in the home opener at Tech Soccer Field.

TTU (2-2-2) has now won back-to-back matches for the first time this season, following Friday night's dramatic 2-1 overtime nod at North Alabama. Sunday's victory opens up a five-match homestand, the longest in program history.

A mere 36 seconds into the second half and already trailing 1-0, App State (1-4-1) collected a red card after Jessica Easley tripped up a streaking Kendall Powell from behind. Despite playing with 10 for the remainder of the match, the Mountaineers found the equalizer on a corner-kick score in the 54th minute. Kristin Dawson's corner connected off the lid of Ava Dawson and into the back of the net to square the contest at 1-1.

The Golden Eagles were not fazed. Just over 11 minutes later, in the 65th minute, Tech struck back behind Bailey Taylor's second goal of the match and fourth of the season. Freshman Kendall Webb started the scoring march with a feed to sophomore Chloe Smith, who then created space before finding Taylor on the left side of the box. With the ball at her feet, the Golden Eagle rookie drilled one off the far post and into the back of the net to give Tech a 2-1 edge.

Webb and Smith were both credited with assists on the play.

Taylor, who now has three goals in the last two matches, broke a scoreless deadlock early in the first half with a score in the 16th minute. The Powell, Tenn. product received a pass from sophomore Cassidy Bereda, before smoking one inside the near post for the tilt's first goal. Bereda, one of the heroes of Friday night's match at North Alabama with the game-winning score in overtime, collected her second assist of the season.

Taylor led all players in the contest with five shots, three of which were on-goal. Senior Nora Vicsek collected three shots, two of which were on-point including a drive in the 10th minute that came within inches of putting the Golden Eagle ahead 1-0, but was halted thanks to a diving stop by freshman Kerry Eagleston to keep the match scoreless. Eagleston ended the afternoon with seven saves and Ava Dawson led the Mountaineers with four shots, all on-goal.

Isabelle Austin secured her second-straight victory behind three saves.

18 different Golden Eagles appeared in the match, including the 2019 season debut of sophomore Kaylee Sunders, who finished third on last year's team with 1,561 minutes played as a freshman.

Tech will continue its season-long and program record five-match homestand with a pair of contests to conclude non-conference play over the weekend. The Golden Eagles greet Evansville on Friday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. CT, before saying hello to Lipscomb on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m.

JACKSONVILLE STATE 3, ALABAMA STATE 2
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -
The Jacksonville State soccer team rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit to claim a 3-2 double overtime win over Alabama State at the Montgomery Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Rachel Blanding posted her first goal of the season with the golden goal four minutes deep into the second overtime session. The win pushed Jax State's overall record to 3-3, while ASU dropped to 1-4 on the season. The Gamecocks bounced back from a tough and physical 2-1 setback to Troy on Thursday evening.

The Gamecocks, who surrendered a pair of goals in the first half, bounced back in the final 45 minutes to force overtime with the two equalizing goals. Senior Emma Meadows connected on her third goal of the season in the 53rd minute after freshman Cynthia Bagozzi set the scoring play up in front of the Hornets' goal. Bagozzi finished the weekend with a goal and an assist as she scored JSU's goal on Thursday.

JSU controlled the second half with nine of its 13 shots coming in the second 45 minutes. JSU had chances in the final moments to get the win in regulation but could not finish.

After a scoreless first overtime session, Pallister set up the game-winning goal with a cross from the left side of the box to Blanding.

After three matches on the road within the state of Alabama, the Gamecocks return home for four straight matches. JSU wraps up its non-conference portion of the schedule next weekend, beginning on Thursday night against the Crimson Tide of Alabama. UA will visit the JSU Soccer Field for a 7 p.m. contest. BELMONT 4, EVANSVILLE 2
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
After going into the half tied 2-2, the Belmont women's soccer team scored two goals in the second half to claim a 4-2 win over Evansville on Sunday at Rose Park.

Four different players scored for Belmont, with AB Hawkins collecting a career high of two assists and registering her first assist since Sept. 8, 2017.

Belmont controlled the possession early and jumped out as the early aggressors, creating three shot opportunities in the first 10 minutes. Evansville, however, struck first thanks to a goal from Emily Ormson off an assist from Sophia Rodil to take a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute.

With the Bruins grabbing the first corner kick of the day six minutes later, Belmont took advantage. Paige Hewitt set Rachel Vernon up for the score, giving the Suwanee, Ga., native her second career goal and tied the match 1-1.

After Henson called on Taylor Dorenkott to enter the game, her first game since Aug. 22 against Western Kentucky, the freshman gave the Bruins a lift in her first eight minutes of play. The Bruins had another corner kick opportunity in the 41st minute, allowing Kameron Ziesig to give Dorenkott her first shot and goal of her career to take a one-goal lead.

Despite Evansville tying the score at 2-2 just before halftime, Belmont came out fired up as 211 fans roared for the Bruins to take its first win of the season in the last 45 minutes. Evansville went back-and-forth with the Bruins to try to gain the early momentum, but Belmont's 2018 leading scorer Julie Garst managed to get her 13th career goal.

In the 52nd minute, Garst came off a pass from Hawkins and snagged the go-ahead lead for Belmont with her first goal of the season.

While Belmont was sitting with the second half lead, the Bruins felt that another score was necessary to put the game out of reach. Eight minutes later, defender Grace Parsons helped the Bruins accomplish that mission.

Hawkins found Parsons running towards the goal, allowing the junior from Brentwood, Tenn., to come away with her first career goal in the 60th minute.

Goalkeepers Lily Herman and Sarah Doyle helped keep the Bruins' lead in-check, each registering a save. Doyle played her first career game in the goal, playing the final 12 minutes to help the Bruins shutout the Purple Aces in the second half.

Belmont starts a five-game road trip, starting with IUPUI on Friday at 6 p.m. in Indianapolis.

OLE MISS 5, MURRAY STATE 4
MURRAY, Ky. -
Murray State women's soccer returned home after a two-game road trip to host Ole Miss at Cutchin Field. Despite a flurry of goals, the Racers came up just short – falling to the Rebels 5-4 on Sunday afternoon.

The Racers jumped out to an early lead when Senior Emma Heise finished a cross from Miyah Watford in the third minute of the game.

Murray State then doubled their lead in the 18th minute when Watford added a goal of her own when she tucked a ball into the lower corner to beat the Rebel goalkeeper – extending the margin to 2-0 in favor of the Racers.

Ole Miss would answer quickly, however, netting their first goal of the match less than minute later to cut the Racer lead in half when Murray, Kentucky native Channing Foster converted a penalty kick for the Rebels to make it 2-1.

The game would then become even for the first time since the opening moments of the afternoon in the 29th minute, when Madisyn Pezzino brought the match level for Ole Miss.

As was the trend on the day, the score line would not stay unchanged for long as the duo of Watford and Heise connected for a goal once more – this time with Watford on the scoring end as her second goal of the day gave the Racers a 3-2 advantage.

As the scoring frenzy continued, an Ole Miss goal from Julia Phillips erased the Racer lead once again as the third goal in just three minutes between the two sides knotted the match at 3-3 as the game entered halftime.

While the score was even, the possession stats would also point towards a balanced first half between the two sides as both enjoyed 50% of the ball through the first 45 minutes of action. In addition to the six goals, the teams combined for 19 shots in an action-packed first half.

While the game seemed to have a slower pace in the early moments after halftime, it quickly picked up again after the Racers regained the lead when they converted a penalty kick as Watford was fouled inside the Rebel penalty area. It would be Abby Jones who put away the penalty kick, giving Murray State a 4-3 lead on her second goal of the season with just over a half hour left to play.

Answering just minutes later for the Rebels would be Julia Phillips, as her second goal of the day tied the score for the third time since the opening kickoff as the score line showed 4-4.

The ninth and final goal of the day would belong to Ole Miss, after Haleigh Stackpole converted another penalty kick for the Rebels to give her side their first lead of the match nearly 63 minutes into the game.

Ironically, the high-scoring affair would be scoreless in the last 27 minutes as the Racers fell to the Rebels by a score of 5-4.

Miyah Watford's second brace of the season brings her goal total to six on the year to lead the Racers, while Jones brings her point total to five (two goals, one assist) in 2019 after converting the penalty kick. The third-minute strike and assist later in the match from Emma Heise would be her first points of the season.

The Racers return to action on Friday when they welcome Arkansas State to Cutchin Field. Kickoff is slated for 3:00 p.m.
