Members of the
OVC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) recently had a virtual meeting to discuss items that were impacting student-athletes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the meeting the group discussed how they are engaging with their teammates, how they are doing course work remotely, what they have learned during social distancing and what they miss the most about being on campus.
Our 10th feature is with Eastern Kentucky quarterback
Austin Scott. Scott will be a redshirt senior in 2020 and is originally from Moore, South Carolina.
What is one tip you have learned to successfully complete your academic work remotely?
"One tip that I could offer other student athletes, is that I purchased a whiteboard with a calendar and made sure I sat down every Sunday and looked over what was due for each class that week, and if there is project write down those timelines. It is color-coded and easy to read so I do not lose track or forget anything that is due that week."
What have you done to keep a positive attitude during our social distancing?
"It is very hard to keep a positive attitude during times like these because every athlete is missing the sport they love the most. In order for me to keep a positive attitude, I have been able to stay in contact with all my teammates and check on them and keep the relationships tight. Also I have been able to spend a lot of time with my family, which I have not been able to do in the past. I am also able to workout and stay active while being with them. They always keep my spirits up."
What have you missed most about not being on campus this spring?
"I really miss being around my teammates and friends. I really value those relationships and I love competing with my teammates every day. It is hard to be away from that because it is something that I have been doing for so long. I am hoping we can get back to normal and we can all be together again."
