L.V. McGinty, who served as the Ohio Valley Conference Coordinator of Football Officials from 1998 to 2006, passed away on Tuesday.
McGinty had an 18-year career as one of the top officials in the OVC and what was known then as Division I-AA (now the Football Championship Subdivision), spending 17 of those years as a referee before retiring in 1998. During that time he officiated 23 playoff games, including eight semifinal playoff contests and three national championship games. He was the referee for the 1990 Division I-AA national championship game.
McGinty, a retired FBI agent, spent 45 years involved in football and basketball officiating, including the nine years as the Coordinator.
McGinty also served as a special investigator with the Kentucky Department of Insurance and is a member of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) Board of Control. In March 2005, he was inducted into the KHSAA Hall of Fame.
