MURRAY, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University softball team split a pair of contests against in-state rival Murray State on Sunday.
The Colonels lost game one, 7-3, before knocking off the Racers 4-1 in game two.
Eastern Kentucky 12-5 (4-2 OVC) jumped out to an early lead in game two. Ariyana Miranda reached on an error by the second baseman. Carly Robinson followed with a singled to put runners on first and second with one out. Vianna Barron followed Robinson with a single up the middle to bring home Miranda and give Eastern the early lead, 1-0.
The Colonels struck again in the second. Miranda Lopez got things started with a one out single. Jaelyn Sanders followed with a double off the right field fence to put runners on second and third with one out. Sammi Miller joined the hit parade with a single up the middle to give EKU the 3-0 lead.
Murray State 7-13 (4-2 OVC) got one back in the bottom half.
A two out single by Kamryn Carcich brought home Lindsey Carroll to cut into the Colonel lead, 3-1.
The score stayed that way until the top of the seventh.
Miller singled to left to get things started in the seventh. After a Miranda walk and a Robinson sacrafice fly put runners on the corners with one out. Barron singled through the right side to score Morgan Zuege and give the Colonels a 4-1 lead.
Miller, Robinson, and Barron all went 2-for-4. Miller and Barron each chipped in two RBIs.
Tori Peterson (4-0) started in the circle tossing five and one-third innings, allowing one run and striking out three. Sanders picked up her second save in on the season tossing the final inning and two-thirds.

In game one, Murray State struck for five runs in the first inning which was more than enough for the Racers.
The Colonels would try to chip away scoring one in the third and two in the fifth inning to cut the Racer lead to two, 5-3.
Murray State hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend the lead to four, 7-3, and put a lid on any EKU comeback.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -Austin Peay took both ends of their Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader, Sunday afternoon at Cathi Maynard Park-Cheryl Holt Field, with the Govs coming away with 4-1 and 4-0 victories over the Eagles.
The Govs (8-4, 3-2 OVC) jumped up early in Game 1 versus Morehead State (4-8, 0-5 OVC) with Kelsey Gross driving in a pair of runs with a double.
That turned out to be more than enough runs for Gross, who limited the Eagles to one run – that coming in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Peyton Rose – on five hits, while striking out four and walked two.
APSU would add two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth, both coming on a triple by Brett Jackson.
Game 2, would see Harley Mullins (2-4) pick up her first complete-game shutout as a Gov, limiting the Eagles to three hits in the contest, while striking out four and walking one.
The Govs scored their four runs in the first, third and fifth innings, with Gross driving in a solo run in the first with a single, two more in the third on a triple and the final on a Drew Dudley sacrifice fly in the fifth for the 4-0 final.
