MOREHEAD, Ky. - After scoring 22 combined runs on 21 hits, Morehead State Softball picked up the victory in both halves of its doubleheader with Kentucky State. The Eagles started the day with a 12-1 win over its in-state opponent before defeating the Thorobreds 10-1 in game two.
In the circle, Lennon Spicer and CJ Alincic both threw complete games to combine for 11 strikeouts in 10 innings of action. Seven Eagles scored multiple runs in the two games led by a team-high four runs on the day from Trinity Spear. Five MSU batters had multi-RBI afternoons including three RBI from Peyton Rose and Alexis Strother.
GAME ONE
MSU started the scoring early off an RBI single by Alexis Strother in the bottom of the first.
The Eagles exploded for nine runs in the second, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Strother and three singles that drove in a run apiece.
Kentucky State earned its sole run of the game in the top of the third off an RBI double down the right field line.
Peyton Rose pushed the margin to 12-1 when she drove in two more with a double in the fourth.
GAME TWO
Kentucky State scored its only run with a SAC bunt to put the Thorobreds up 1-0 in the top of the first.
The lead was short-lived as Morehead State put up six runs in the bottom of the inning including an RBI triple from Kirya Kingery and an RBI double from Endya Moler.
The Eagles kept up the scoring in the second as Peyton Slater doubled to left center to drive in a run before Maddie Kawall's bunt single brought home another.
A sacrifice fly from Taylor Rhea and an RBI groundout from Kawall in the bottom of the fourth represented the final two runs of a 12-1 ballgame.
