CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.
- Austin Peay State University’s softball team scored 19 runs, while pounding out 25 hits versus Belmont, Sunday at Cathi Maynard Park-Cheryl Holt Field, as the Governors took the final two games of their three-game Ohio Valley Conference series, by 11-3 and 8-0 finals.

The first game Sunday was the completion of a suspended Game 2 from Saturday, and the Govs fired out quickly, sending up 13 hitters to the plate in their first at bat of the day, scoring nine runs, to break open a 1-1 tie when the game was suspended.

Highlighting the nine-run second inning was Kelsey Gray’s two hits and three RBIs.

Belmont (8-15, 4-10 OVC) would score its final two runs in the fourth on a two-run homer by MyKayla Spurlin to make it 10-3, but the Govs ended the game in the fifth under the eight-run rule by scoring their 11th run of the game on a single by Brett Jackson.

In Sunday’s second game, Alyssa Archuleta game the Govs the lead in the bottom of the second on her first home run of the season, a two-run shot.

That would be all the runs that APSU starter Jordan Benefiel (5-2) would need, as the freshman shutout the Bruins on three hits for the second straight day, while walking one and striking out five.

APSU would add another run in the third on a sacrifice fly by Lexi Osowski and then explode for five runs in the fifth inning, including a two-run homer by Drew Dudley to end the game, 8-0.
