TENNESSEE TECH 1, MOREHEAD STATE 0
MOREHEAD, Ky
. - A Chloe Smith goal in the waning moments of regulation paved the way for the purple and gold, as the Tennessee Tech soccer team split the pipes in the 88th minute on the way to a 1-0 win Tuesday afternoon at Morehead State.

Coupled with a 1-0 nod at Austin Peay in the season opener on Mar. 2, the Golden Eagles are now 2-0-0 during the spring, marking the first time since 2016 in which Tech has claimed victories in its first two OVC affairs.

With the prospects of overtime looming, the Golden Eagles hastily dispelled the notion of an extra session thanks to TTU's offense kicking into high gear late in regulation. A series of quick, crisp passes put the ball at the shoe tops of sophomore Emily Carlevato, who directed a feed to fellow sophomore Bailey Taylor. Taylor then guided a left-side give to Chloe Smith, who after maneuvering her way into the box, angled a near-side, bending drive over the leaping try of Morehead keeper Michelle Jerantowski to break the 0-0 knot.

Smith's score marked the junior's third career goal, while Taylor's connection earned the Powell, Tenn. product her first career assist.

Defensively, Tech's unit held Morehead State (0-3-0) to eight total shots, the second-consecutive contest in which the Golden Eagles held the opposition to single-digit attempts after seven tries in the opener at Austin Peay. That match with the Govs featured only one Isabelle Austin save, while Tuesday's tilt with Morehead saw a much busier Austin behind six stops to give the Sylvania, Ohio native her fifth career clean sheet.

Austin's final halt occurred late in the 88th minute with a clutch stop on a Katie Quinn equalizing effort. The save marked the second in the tilt's last 10 minutes after Austin kept the match scoreless with a diving cutoff in the 82nd minute on a Colleen Swift try.

Cassidy Bereda was responsible for four of Tech's 10 shots, tying Smith for the most TTU attempts on-goal with a pair. Sarah Block, Carlevato, Gabby Garcia and Meredith Nye all tallied a shot as well, with Garcia, Carlevato and Nye all putting their tries on-goal.

Swift, Eva Kiper and Kate Larbes led Morehead with two shots each. Eagle keeper Michelle Jerantowski notched six saves in the contest.

AUSTIN PEAY 4, JACKSONVILLE STATE 3
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.
- After a scoreless first 45 minutes, Austin Peay State University soccer and Jacksonville State erupted for three goals apiece in the second half to force overtime, in the 103rd minute of double overtime, freshman Isabel Petre found Ashley Whittaker streaking down the sideline and Whittaker beat the Gamecock's goalkeeper to secure a 4-3 win for the Governors, Tuesday, at Morgan Bros. Soccer Field.

Jacksonville State (0-3-0) tested Austin Peay (1-2-0) early, putting their first three shot attempts on goal, but the Gamecocks were unable to best Govs goalkeeper Peyton Powell in the first half. Powell made three saves to keep a clean sheet in the first half, but Jacksonville State keeper Aneesa O'Brien also made a pair of first-half saves to keep the Governors off the boards in the first frame.

After the quiet first half, things picked up in a hurry in the second 45 minutes, with Whittaker finding Petre for her career's first goal in the 56th minute. But the Gamecocks had an answer and one more, with Cynthia Bagozzi scoring in the 66th minute to tie the match and Kylie Wells scoring in the 69th minute to give Jacksonville State a 2-1 advantage.

However the Governors didn't wait long to erase the Jacksonville State lead, as Tori Case found fellow freshman Hannah Wilson, who beat the Gamecock's keeper for her career's first goal in the 74th minute. Wilson's goal made her the third Austin Peay freshman to score her career's first goal in the past two games, joining Case who scored at SIUE, March 5, and Petre earlier in the contest.

With the score tied at two, the Governors retook the lead when Claire Larose picked up her season's first point by finding Delanie McKeon, who found the back of the net to give Austin Peay a 3-2 lead in the 80th minute. But Jacksonville State was able to tie the match on a Briana Eads goal in the 87th minute, sending the Governors and Gamecocks to overtime for the second-straight meeting.

The first overtime was uneventful, with neither team taking a shot in the ten minute period. In the second overtime, Jacksonville State got things started when Ida Cedarburg fired a long shot just over the crossbar in the 101st minute.

Then it was Austin Peay's turn to go on the attack in double overtime, and the Governors found an advantage in transition, with Petre finding a wide-open Whittaker streaking down the sideline. With the Gamecock's keeper at the near post, Whittaker beat her to the middle of the net in the 103rd minute for the walk-off winner. The game-winning tally was the third career goal for Whittaker and marked the second time in the contest the Governors had used the Petre-Whittaker connection to find the back of the net.
