DAYTON, Ohio - Morehead State Softball swept both halves of today's doubleheader against Dayton with a 4-3 extra-inning victory in game one before holding on to secure a 7-6 win in game two. The two victories mark the first time that MSU has won both games of a doubleheader against a Division I opponent since April 29, 2018, against Tennessee Tech.
The Eagles came out on fire offensively, combining for 11 runs on 17 hits on the day. Morehead State was led by a 3-for-5 performance by Alexis Strother. The senior tallied a combined six RBI in the two games while hitting her second home run of the year in game two. Freshman Peyton Jordan came out of a recent hitting slump in a big way today as she combined to go 4-for-8 while adding an RBI.
Freshman Lennon Spicer pitched 12.0 combined innings this afternoon as she picked up the win in both contests while throwing six strikeouts. Spicer has thrown 98.2 innings in 19 appearances this season.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Belmont Softball completed the season sweep of crosstown rival Tennessee State on Wednesday at Rose Park. The Bruins (10-18, 6-13 OVC) never allowed the Lady Tigers (8-19, 4-15 OVC) to plate a run in the doubleheader winning, 12-0, in five innings, and 8-0 in six innings.
For the day, sophomore Lauren Veltri (Clarksville, Tenn.) batted. 667, going 4-for-6 at the plate with a doubkle and four RBI, to lead the team. Freshman Kaley Varner (Cumming, Ga.) and senior Alicia Veltri (Clarksville, Tenn.) both batted .600 over the two games.
Inside the circle, Alicia Veltri and freshman Alex Clesi (Mandeville, La.) each logged a complete game. Clesi matched her career-best of six strikeouts in the nightcap.
EASTERN KENTUCKY 1, WESTERN KENTUCKY 0
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University softball team knocked off in-state rival Western Kentucky University, 1-0, on Wednesday night in Bowling Green.
In the top of the seventh with one out, Isabella Gonzalez delivered with big-time heroics.
With a 3-2 count, Gonzalez doubled down the right field line and advanced to third on a throwing error by the second baseman, the throw ended up going into the dugout and Gonzalez scored to give the Colonels the run they needed.
Eastern Kentucky (22-9, 13-4 OVC) got another amazing start from Tori Peterson in the circle.
Peterson (11-2) tossed a complete game, allowing four hits and striking out four.
In the bottom of the sixth inning a walk, a double, and a walk loaded the bases with one out. Peterson got a pop out and a ground out to end the Hilltopper threat and leave the bases loaded.
The Colonels out-hit Western 6-4 on the contest.
Western Kentucky (15-5) come into the contest receiving votes in the top-25.
Sammi Miller went 2-for-3. Gonzalez went 1-for-2 with one walk and one run.
