• 2022-23 NCAA Men's Basketball Experimental Rules Release
This season during Conference men’s basketball games, Ohio Valley Conference teams will use an NCAA Experimental Rule which establishes a standard media timeout format for the second half of all OVC men’s basketball regular season and conference tournament games.
The rule establishes the standard media timeout format for all Conference games which requires electronic media timeout marks that occur after the first stoppage of play following the 17-, 14-, 11-, 8- and 4- minute marks in the second half. The experimental rule, which was first approved by the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel, is designed to help standardize the traditional “floater” media mark in the second half.
Previously (and what was done in non-conference games this season), men's basketball second half media timeouts occurred at the first stoppage of play following the 16-, 12-, 8- and 4- minute marks, with a fifth stoppage "floater" taking place at the first called team timeout of the half.
The use of the experimental rule was unanimously approved by OVC head coaches and athletic directors.
