MARTIN, Tenn. - UT Martin picked up its fourth straight win as the Skyhawks defeated visiting Morehead State, 54-36, on Wedneday night.
The Skyhawks' Shae Littleford led all players with 21 points. She hit four of UT Martin's seven three-pointers. Paige Pipkin added 10 points, six rebounds and a team-high four steals.
Morehead State's Jada Claude nearly had a double-double with eight points and nine boards.
The game got off to a slow start, with no scoring from either team for the first three minutes of action, but after falling into a 5-0 hole, the Eagles rattled off six in a row to take the lead. The Skyhawks answered with back-to-back baskets, but a late three from Tyler Moore ended the grind out quarter at 9-9. A back and forth second quarter saw the Eagles take a 16-14 lead at the midway point, but UT Martin rattled off eight straight to head into halftime with a 22-16 advantage.
A 9-0 run in the middle of the third quarter and a 5-0 run to open the fourth quarter, coupled with 14 second half turnovers from the Eagles allowed the Skyhawks to finally get some distance and pull out the victory.
MURRAY STATE 68, AUSTIN PEAY 61
MURRAY, Ky. - Murray State defeated Austin Peay, 68-61, in overtime to extend its winning streak to four straight games. It was the second straight meeting between these two teams that went into overtime. The last time out it was Austin Peay picking up the victory.
Murray State's Katelyn Young led all players with 31 points, going 9-for-18 from the field and 12-of-14 from the line. It marked the second time Young has reached the 30-plus point mark this season. Hannah McKay notched a double-double for the Racers with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Alexis Burpo added eight points and 11 boards.
Shay-Lee Kirby led the Govs with 15 points, hitting a trio of three-pointers. Karle Pace added 13 points while Ella Sawyer had eight points and six rebounds.
