COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Tennessee State softball team picked up a victory against Texas Southern in game two, while the Tigers fell to No. 11 Oklahoma State to begin the morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
BOT 1ST: No. 11 Oklahoma State's lead-off hitter, Kiley Naomi, provided a spark to begin the game. The senior stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball. Julia Cottrill gave the Cowgirls an early lead on a sacrifice fly to right field. || No. 11 OKST., 1-0
BOT 2ND: With two outs, Morgyn Wynne reached on a free-pass and scored on an RBI triple from Naomi. || No. 11 OKST., 2-0
BOT 3RD: To begin the inning, Chyenne Factor reached on an error by TSU's third basemen, Anayah Baker. After a fielder's choice to Cottrill, Karli Petty singled to right field to advanced Cottrill into scoring position. Sydney Pennington reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases, as Baker attempted to tag third base as Cottrill slid safely. Taylor Tuck laced a two-RBI single to right field to extend the "Pokes" lead. || No. 11 OKST., 4-0
BOT 4TH: The Cowgirls clean-up hitter, Factor, connected for a solo home run on a full count. It was the fifth homer of the year for the senior outfielder. || No. 11 OKST., 5-0
Peyton Fointno and Mikayla Duke recorded hits in the contest.
Francys King came into relief of Raven Loveless in the circle; King tossed 2.2 scoreless innings, allowed one hit and struck out four.
No. 11 Oklahoma State's starting pitcher, Kelly Maxwell, went a complete game with 13 strikeouts, allowed two hits and one walk.
The duo of Fointno and Duke have logged a hit in five of the last six games.
Loveless has allowed 26 runs on the year, however, only 16 have been earned as the senior owns a 3.54 ERA.
Maxwell, a 2021 first team All-Big 12 selection, has registered three complete games in four starts and struck out 46 batters over the 26 innings pitched.

TOP 3RD: With two outs, Lauren Farias reached on a free-pass. Peyton Fointno, a sophomore from Lawrenceville, Ga., laced an RBI double to score Farias from first base. || Tennessee State, 1-0
BOT 3RD: Texas Southern's Pamela Richardson reached base with a one-out walk and stole second. Crimson Davis singled to center field and Richardson came around to score. || TIED, 1-1
TOP 4TH: To lead off the inning, Mikayla Duke reached on a fielding error by the Texas Southern first basemen. Anayah Baker advanced Duke into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. TSU loaded the bases with back-to-back walks to Jordan Turner and Farias. With the bases-juiced, Fointno logged her second RBI of the day on a hit-by-pitch. || Tennessee State, 2-1
TOP 5TH: Analeigh Coursey led off the fifth inning with a walk and advanced to second on a groundout. Duke, in a 10-pitch at-bat, reached on a throwing error by the pitcher which allowed Coursey to score. Baker tallied her team-leading eighth RBI of the year with a triple down the right field line. With one out and Baker at third, Turner singled through the left side to extend the advantage. || Tennessee State, 5-1
BOT 5TH: Ja'Lynn Swiney walked to begin the inning. The Lady Tigers loaded the bases on consecutive fielder's choices without an out recorded. Tamera McKnight was plunked by a pitch to drive Swiney. With the bases loaded and one out, Julia Bilbao trimmed the deficit with a sacrifice fly. || Tennessee State 5-3
TOP 7TH: With one out, Baker singled down the right field line and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Marisa Mauroschadt came into the game as a pinch-hitter and reached on a walk prior to Jasmine Brown's free-pass to load the bases. Farias, a senior from Boynton Beach, Florida, reached on a fielder's choice and Baker scored on an error by the catcher. Fointno drove in Mauroschadt with an RBI single to right field. Kayli Mothershed tallied an RBI on a groundout to third base. || Tennessee State, 8-3

Anayah Baker went 2-for-2 with an RBI triple and two runs scored.
In four at-bats with a runner on third and less than two outs, the Tigers collected three hits and four RBI.
Baker leads the team with eight RBI, while Fointno trails by one (7).
Fointno matched the TSU single game season-high with three-RBI in the contest.
Jordan Turner, a junior from Thousand Oaks, California, has three RBI in five at-bats.
Tennessee State has scored eight runs in three of six wins this season.
The duo of Fointno and Duke have logged a hit in six of the last seven games.
Tennessee State travels to Gainesville, Florida next weekend for the "Bubly Invitational" against Georgia State, Coastal Carolina and host-school, University of Florida. TSU will continue their road trip the following week in Jacksonville, Fla. against Bethune-Cookman, North Florida and Jacksonville University.
NICHOLLS STATE 4, EASTERN ILLINOIS 2
YOUNGSVILLE, La. – Eastern Illinois softball jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on Sunday afternoon by the Panthers could not make that lead stand-up as they lost to Nicholls State 4-2 on the final day of the Mardi Gras Mambo.
Amber Cieplinski drove in the first run of the game for EIU as the Panthers were on the board first in the top of the second inning. Lindy Milkowski opened the inning drawing a walk and pinch runner Marama Makea came around to score on the double by Cieplinski.
EIU pushed its lead out to 2-0 in the top of the third with Milkowski this time driving in the Panthers run. Jaylen Prichard, who reached on a two-out single, came around to score. Prichard finished the day 2-for-4 at the plate, one of two EIU players with multiple hits in the game.
Nicholls State answered with unearned runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings to tie the game at 2-2. Alexa Poche’ had a sacrifice fly to drive in the Colonels first run while the run in the fourth scored on a passed ball.
Nicholls would do its final damage in the fifth inning as Poche’ led off with a walk followed by a single by Samantha Gwiazda. Lulu Vasquez had the big hit with a two run single giving Nicholls the two run lead.
Brittney Turner worked five innings for Nicholls State picking up the win to improve to 4-4. Paris Lehman pitched the final two innings for her second save. Melise Gossen was the lone Nicholls player with multiple hits going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Alexa Rehmeier threw a complete game suffering her first loss of the season to fall to 4-1. Hannah Cravens joined Prichard with multiple hits going 2-for-3 for EIU.
EIU fell to 6-9 on the season. Nicholls improved to 4-11.
