BOCA RATON, Fla. - SIUE softball closed out its Florida trip with a 2-0 loss Tuesday at Florida Atlantic.
The Cougars recorded three hits against FAU pitcher Gabby Sacco, who went the distance and struck out six.
Mia Haynes, 3-5, took the loss for the Cougars. She yielded seven hits in a tight game.
SIUE next heads back north to Carbondale, Illinois, for the Saluki Invitational. With challenging weather predicted ahead, the tournament was moved to a Sunday-Monday setup with the Cougars facing Northern Illinois and SIU Carbondale on back-to-back days.
The Cougars also are looking forward to their home opener next Wednesday when they entertain South Dakota in a 2 p.m. contest at Cougar Field.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Tennessee State softball team defeated Bethune-Cookman, 1-0, after a first inning run by the Tigers.
TOP 1ST: To lead off the ballgame, Jasmine Brown reached on a throwing error by the BC shortstop which gave the Tigers an initial baserunner in scoring position. After a groundout to move Brown to third base, Peyton Fointno registered a go-ahead RBI single for TSU.
Caitlyn Manus tossed her fourth complete game of the year; the freshman allowed six hits and no walks in seven innings, while striking out four.
Peyton Fointno led the team with two hits, including the RBI base knock in the first inning.
It was the sixth game with multiple stolen bases for TSU.
Manus made her 12th appearance in the circle, tied for third in the OVC. She's ranked fifth in the conference with 46 innings pitched.
Maggie Klug recorded her first double of the season.
Anayah Baker logged a two-bagger as well, her team-leading seventh extra-base hit.
Baker is tied for fourth in the OVC with five doubles.
Tennessee State will finish its Florida road trip on Wednesday afternoon with a doubleheader against Jacksonville and North Florida, beginning at 10:30am at the UNF Softball Complex.
TENNESSEE 9, AUSTIN PEAY 1
KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- Austin Peay State University’s softball team swapped a couple of scoreless innings early on versus nationally ranked Tennessee, Tuesday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium, but couldn’t contain the Lady Vols in a 9-1 loss.
The Governors (12-7) led the 18th-ranked Tennessee off the scoreboard for the first two innings, but saw the Lady Vols score three runs in the third and three more in the fourth to go up 6-0.
The Govs got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth, with Kendyl Weinzapfel leading off the inning with a double to left, advance to third on a wild pitch and score three batters later on a single through the right side of the Lady Vols infield by Bailey Shorter to make it 6-1.
Brooke Pfefferle (double) and Morgan Zuege also had hits in the game for Austin Peay.
But the Lady Vols put the game away in the bottom off the inning with their second and third home runs of the game for the 9-1 final.
