CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -Illinois scored six runs in the first inning Tuesday and captured an 8-0 victory over SIUE in nonconference softball action at Eichelberger Field.
Sydney Sickels struck out nine for the Fighting Illini, which improved to 18-13. Mia Haynes took the loss for the Cougars, now 13-20.
The Cougars picked up some walks in the third inning on good at bats from Jenna Herron and Micah Arps. SIUE added a double by Lexi King and a single by Lauren Yslava in the fourth.
Kelly Ryono and Paige Berkemeyer each had three RBIs for Illinois.
SIUE softball returns to OVC play looking to add to its five-game league winning streak with three games at Tennessee Tech. Saturday's doubleheader start at 1 p.m. A third game on Sunday also begins at 1 p.m.SIUE fell at Illinois, 8-0, on Tuesday. It snapped the Cougars five-game winning streak.

OXFORD, Miss. - The Tennessee State softball team dropped a pair of games against SEC competition on Tuesday afternoon.

BOT 2ND: Paige Smith led off the inning with a single to left field. Mikayla Allee gave OM an early lead with an RBI triple to right-center field. The Rebels extended the lead on an error by TSU's shortstop. Tate Whitley extended her team-lead in RBI with a two-run single through the left side. With runners at second and third, Abbey Latham logged an RBI single and scored on a two-run double from Smith. || OM, 7-0
BOT 3RD: To lead off the inning, Sydney Gutierrez reached on an error and advanced to second on a single from Nyomi Jones. With the bases loaded, Bre Roper increased the advantage with a free pass. After a pitching change for TSU, Ole Miss scored two runs on a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch. || OM, 10-0

BOT 1ST: With two outs, Abbey Latham walked and stole second. After a walk to Paige Smith, Mikayla Allee reached on an infield single to load the bases. Catelyn Riley, a freshman from Dandrige, Tenn., clubbed a grand slam to take a first-inning lead. In the next at-bat, Aynslie Furbush homered to left field. || OM, 5-0
BOT 2ND: With one out, Tate Whitley walked and swiped second base. Latham, a fifth-year senior, registered a two-run home run to extend the Ole Miss advantage. || OM, 7-0
BOT 3RD: Riley walked with one out and advanced to second on a base hit from Furbush. The Rebels attacked with five straight singles to score five runs. With a 12-run lead, Smith lined a two-run double to left field. After a pinch-runner for Smith, Brooke Barnard blasted a two-run homer. || OM, 16-0
BOT 4TH: Whitney singled and would eventually score the 17th run for Ole Miss. OM logged back-to-back fielder's choices prior to Brooke Lorenzo's RBI single to score Whitney. || OM, 17-0
Anayah Baker recorded the lone hit of the contest.
Meaghan Lewis reached on a free pass to begin the game.
Tennessee State is set to host Austin Peay this weekend for a conference series, beginning at 1:00pm (DH) on Saturday with a single game on Sunday at 1:00pm.
