MOREHEAD STATE 1, QUEENS 1
MOREHEAD, Ky. -
The Morehead State soccer team showed off its resilient nature on Sunday, pulling level with 56 seconds remaining and securing a 1-1 draw with Queens, after playing with 10 women for the last 64 minutes of the match due to a collision that resulted in Madelyn Mozeleski being shown a red card.

A giveaway by the Eagles defense proved costly in the early going, as Nia Gaither took advantage of an MSU mistake to put the Royals on top 1-0 in the eighth minute.

In the final minute, Morehead State was awarded its 11th corner of the match. Abby Wesselkamper sent it in, and Anna Lohrer was fouled in the box and awarded a penalty kick for the Eagles. Hadley Cytron took the PK and scored to tie the score at one with 56 seconds left.

Lohrer nearly put the Eagles on the board twice in the second half, but both of her headers were saved by Queens goalkeeper Erica Turner. Her hard work on set pieces has paid off in big ways this season for MSU, with a game-winning goal vs. Central Michigan and the penalty she drew in Sunday's match.

Michelle Jerantowski had a fine day in goal, saving two of the three shots on goal she faced, including a magnificent diving save in the 41st minute that kept the Royals off the board. Avery Redmon played all 90 minutes in the midfield for Morehead State, moving her total up to 504 minutes played on the season.

Queens held an 8-7 advantage in shots, but Morehead State has four on goal to the Royals' three. Both teams committed nine fouls in the physical contest.

Next up for the Eagles is a match with Eastern Michigan at MSU Soccer Field on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 6 pm.

UT MARTIN 2, MURRAY STATE 2
MURRAY, Ky.
-In a matchup of former Ohio Valley Conference rivals, the University of Tennessee at Martin women’s soccer team doubled its scoring output on the season behind goals by Megan Drake and Makayla Robinson while pushing Murray State to a 2-2 tie on the road.

The Skyhawks (0-3-2) scored two goals in their final road contest of their non-conference slate Sunday afternoon – ranking as a new season-high for goals scored – before settling for the team’s second tie of the season against the Racers.

UT Martin made the most of its shot attempts, scoring two goals on five attempts. Robinson led the team with two attempts while scoring her first goal of the season. Drake also tallied a goal on her lone shot attempt while Izzy Patterson and Emma Elliott joined in the action with one attempt each. Contributing to the team’s offensive push was Alba Delgado who tallied her second assist of the season.

Freshman Poppy Bastock allowed two goals but tallied five saves in 90 minutes of action.

Drake put the Skyhawks on the board first with a goal in the 28th minute to take a 1-0 advantage when she curled in a corner kick into the top right corner of the net for her second score of the season. The lead would remain in the visitor’s favor until the Racers found the equalizer right before halftime with a penalty kick goal by Morgan Bodker in the 44th minute.

The score remained tied until the 58th minute when Robinson received a cross from Delgado which she placed in the goal for her fourth career score to take a 2-1 lead. The Skyhawk clung to that lead in the final minutes as they searched for their first win of the season but a header by Chloe Barnthouse in the 87th minute knotted the score up and resulted in an eventual 2-2 tie when the final horn blew.

UT Martin will return home to close out the non-conference portion of its schedule with three consecutive matches at Skyhawk Field beginning with a matchup against Indiana State on Thursday, Sept. 8.

NORTHERN ILLINOIS 2, EASTERN ILLINOIS 1

EIU would have an equalizer taken off the board five minutes later on an offsides call but did even the match in the 66th minute on a goal by Karima Rangel.  Rangel finished off a play that began with a Amanda DaSilva corner kick that was headed first by Kenzie Balcerak before Rangel collected the goal.

Abby Adams then picked up the match winner for NIU in the 80th minute as a ball was played around a diving Bermeo on a first shot and then Adams finished off the goal beating a defender to the open area.  Abby McHugh and Amber Best picked up assists on the goal.

EIU finished with eight shots on goal with Rangel picking up three.  Jenna Little had two.

Reegan Kingpavong had two of the nine NIU shots on goal in the match.

EIU returns to action next Sunday at Central Michigan with a 12 pm kick.  Prior to today’s loss, EIU’s 2-0-3 start was the second best in program history and this year’s team already set a program record with four straight shutouts to open the year.

LITTLE ROCK 0, ARKANSAS STATE 0
JONESBORO, Ark
. - Little Rock's defense once again stood tall and recorded a third consecutive clean sheet, this time against a long-time rival, as the Trojans claimed a point in Jonesboro for the first time in seven years in a 0-0 draw at Arkansas State Sunday afternoon.

Freshman goalkeeper Peyton Urban matched a career-high five saves as she has now gone nearly 279 consecutive minutes played without allowing a goal. It marked only the eighth time in the 36-year history of the program that the Trojans (1-2-2) have blanked three consecutive Division I opponents.

Arkansas State (1-2-2), the Sun Belt Conference regular season champions a year ago, failed to secure a win at home for the third time in four tries this season. It marked the first time since 2015 the Trojans have secured a point when playing in Jonesboro.

The in-state rivalry continued its well-established tradition of close games Sunday as this marked the 11th time in the last 14 meetings the outcome has been decided by one goal or less.

The Red Wolves lobbed 18 shots in the game but only five would be on-target with Urban thwarting all five chances. She particularly was aided in the stonewall defense of the Trojans against ASU's offensive attack by teammates Amaya Arias, Natalee Geren and Colleen Gilliland.

The Trojans return to the Capital City to host two games in three days beginning Friday. Louisiana Tech will visit Little Rock on Friday, Sept. 9 with a 6 p.m. kickoff set at the Coleman Sports Complex for Bark in the Bark Night as fans are encouraged to bring their four-legged friends. Water bowls will be available and special treats will be given out. Then on Sunday, Sept. 11, the Trojans will host Grambling State with a 1 p.m. kickoff.
