FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - – Laure Jansen recorded a season-high 15 kills and recorded a career-high five blocks, but Little Rock dropped a 3-1 match against FIU at Barnhill Arena in Fayetteville Thursday evening.
The Trojans (2-5) posted a season-high 14 total blocks but only hit .086 in the match, was whistled for five block errors and committed six service errors in the match. FIU (1-6) tallied 11 aces in the match and hit .195 as a team. Set scores were 25-23, 25-14, 23-25 and 25-14.
Jansen, whose first career double-double came in Barnhill Arena last year in a win over Arkansas, fell just two digs shy of a double-double. However, she was responsible for two of the four aces from the Trojans – her second straight match with multiple aces. Mihaly Carmona and Sophia Reynolds also registered aces.
Little Rock was close in the first set and won the third with those two frames accounting for 25 ties and 11 lead changes. But the second and fourth sets were different stories as the Trojans failed to hit above .000 in either set.
Unforced errors plagued the Trojans with 43 unaided miscues hampering the Little Rock effort while FIU committed 27 unforced errors.
The Panthers had three players in double figures in kills, led by 19 off the hand of Emily Meyer. FIU led the match in kills (54-35), aces (11-4) and digs (69-55).
The Trojans return to action Friday morning when they face host Arkansas at 10 a.m.
