The Eastern Illinois women's team was picked third while the men's team was tabbed 11th in the 2023-24 OVC Preseason Poll voted on by league head coaches and communications directors.
For the EIU women',
Macy McGlone, a returning All-OVC player from last year, was joined on the preseason team by
Miah Monahan. McGlone was a first team All-OVC selection last year as one of the top post players in the conference. She averaged 12.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per game shooting 54.4 percent from the floor. Monahan was the Panthers floor general last season helping lead the team to a 21-win season. Monahan averaged 9.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game.
Eastern Illinois men's basketball will open its third season under head coach
Marty Simmons.
Caleb Donaldson is the Panthers top returning scorer from last season after averaging 8.5 points per game last season. Donaldson started 29 of 31 games last season as EIU finished 9-22 overall.
The EIU teams will look to be one of eight teams in each gender to qualify for the 2024 OVC Basketball Championships, which will be played March 6-9 at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana. For more information on the championship,
