CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball (2-8) fell Tuesday night to Eastern Kentucky (10-3) by a final score of 57-48 from the Show-Me Center.
Junior guard Jaliyah Green finished with a game high 19 points as she was 5-of-18 from the field, including 3-of-7 from three-point range. Alecia Doyle was the only other Redhawk to finish in double-digits, chipping in 11 points (3-17) including a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
As a team, SEMO finished 13-for-59 from the field (22%) and was finished just 3-for-19 from three-point range (3-19).
The Redhawks forced 23 EKU turnovers and converted them into 19 points. SEMO registered 11 steals in the contest, led by Alecia Doyle with four.
SEMO recorded 12 offensive rebounds, turning them into seven second-chance points. Forward Forwards Amiyah Buchanan and Julia Sion led the Redhawks in rebounding, pulling in 10 and seven rebounds, respectively. For Buchanan, her 10 rebounds set a new career-high in the category.
The Redhawks started the game out on a 5-0 run as Alecia Doyle opened the scoring on a two-point jump shot just outside of the lane.
A Jaliyah Green three-pointer grew the SEMO lead as Green finished the quarter 3-for-3 from three-point land.
At the 7:10 mark of the quarter, EKU's Jasmine McGinnis-Taylor got the Colonels on the board with a layup.
The game was tied at seven at the 4:47 mark and from that point forward it was all SEMO as the Redhawks went on an 8-0 run over the next two minutes of game time, led by Doyle and Green.
Green cashed her second three, then Doyle who was fouled behind the three-point line, sunk all three free throws to put SEMO up 13-7 with 3:58 left in the quarter.
A Daejah Richmond layup gave the Redhawks an eight-point lead before Green knocked in her third three of the quarter as SEMO led 18-7.
EKU's Brie Crittendon stopped the SEMO scoring run with a layup under the basket, but the Redhawks would use three free throws to hold a 12-point lead, their largest of the contest (21-9). At the end of the first quarter, SEMO led 21-10.
SEMO started the second quarter off on a quick 6-0 run with three-straight field goals as EKU was forced into a quick timeout. A layup by Amiyah Buchanan, a Megan Barton jump shot, and a Jaliyah Green layup on the fast break gave SEMO a 27-10 lead at the 8:08-mark.
The Redhawks biggest lead came with 6:13 left in the half as Alecia Doyle scored a layup to give SEMO a 30-12 lead.
EKU would fight back to get within 10, the closest they had been since early in the first quarter as Sierra McCullough finished a second-chance opportunity as SEMO led 33-23 with just over a minute left.
At the half, SEMO led 35-24. The Redhawks shot 34-percent from the field (10-29) led by 14 first half points from Jaliyah Green. Green shot 4-for-8 from the field, including 3-for-5 from three, and a near-perfect 3-for-4 from the charity stripe.
SEMO forced 14 first half Colonel turnovers and converted them into 16 points on the other end. The Redhawks also registered three blocks in the half, as three different Redhawks recorded a block.
EKU shot just 9-for-28 from the floor in the first half (9-28) led by Brie Crittendon and Antwainette Walker with six points each.
The third quarter started with an EKU three-pointer from Antwainette Walker as the second half was all Colonels. The basket cut the Redhawks lead to eight at the 8:46 mark.
Midway through the third quarter, a 9-0 EKU run tied the game at 39 apiece as Kaitlyn Costner rattled home a pair of free throws to tie the game for the first time since the start of the game.
Back-and-forth for the remainder of the quarter, Jaliyah Green sunk a pair of free throws to give SEMO a 46-43 lead into the game's final quarter.
The fourth quarter was all EKU as the Colonels closed the game on a 12-0 run over the game's final 4:08, including a 14-1 over the game's final 7:42 as the Redhawks suffered a 4:46 scoring draught.
SEMO failed to record a fourth quarter field goal, as EKU held on for a 57-48 victory.
