CHARLESTON, S.C. - Makayli Harris and Abby Shoulders four of Tech’s six runs for Tennessee Tech on Friday as the Golden Eagles fell to Boston and Canisius on the first day of the

The Terriers won 10-2 in five innings, while the Golden Griffins were victorious 12-4 in five.
The Golden Eagles (0-4) will face Canisius again on Saturday morning at 11 a.m., then face tournament host College of Charleston at 4:30 p.m.
Shoulders, the Middle Tennessee transfer from Lafayette, went 2-for-3 against Canisius, while Harris had the other Tech hit in the contest.
Tech plated three against the Golden Griffins in the second inning as Savannah Talley was hit by a pitch and Ella Bishop drew a walk. Harris brought them home on a double to right center, then came across the plate herself on a Shoulders single – stretched into an extra base on a fielding error in center field.
After the Golden Eagles were tagged for seven runs in the second and third innings, Shoulders drove in Bishop with a double to left center.

In the day’s first game, Callie Piper made her first start of the season, but Boston tacked on four runs in the bottom of the first. Piper allowed six runs – five earned – on six hits in two innings of work, walking three. Avery Flatford allowed three runs on two hits with three walks and a strikeout in an inning and a third, while Woollen was the most effective against the Terriers, yielding one run on two hits with two strikeouts.
Haeli Bryson, Abby Buettner, Jordan Key and Bishop each recorded hits in the contest.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Day one of the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagle Invitational closed out Friday with a pair of losses for SIUE softball.
The day began with SIUE and Tulsa waiting for field crews to clean up a wet field at the USM Softball Complex. The morning game started more than an hour late and pushed back the whole schedule.
The Cougars dropped game one of the day to Tulsa 8-0 in six innings. Lexi King led SIUE's offense with a four-inning leadoff single. Tulsa's Maura Moore struck out four for her second win of the season.
SIUE returned later in the afternoon to face former Ohio Valley Conference rival Jacksonville State. The Gamecocks edged the Cougars 4-3 despite a late charge.
King turned on the offense for SIUE with four hits and scored all three of SIUE's runs. Hayley Palm added two hits for SIUE.
SIUE was down 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh when King and Palm provided back-to-back hits. Lauren Yslava sent the ball to deep center field and gained a sacrifice fly to put the Cougars down by a single tally.
However, Jacksonville State's Sarah Currie closed out the game, going the distance and fanning six SIUE batters.

BATON ROUGE, La. - – Olivia Price was razor sharp on Friday afternoon in the opening game of the Mardi Gras Classic as she allowed just one base runner tossing the eighth no-hitter in school history during a 6-0 Eastern Illinois victory over Alabama State.
Price improved to 1-1 on the season allowing just Leah Richardson to walk in the top of the sixth before she was caught stealing. Price faced the minimum 21 batters in the game finishing with nine strikeouts.
The Panthers provided Price all the offense she would need with three runs in the first against ASU starter Ashley Pye (0-1). Morgan Lewis walked and came around to score what proved to be the game winning run. Jaylen Prichard singled and scored in the inning with Price also coming in to score as she went in as a pinch-runner for Rachel Kaufman who had a single in the first.
EIU added punch to its offense later in the game with three solo home runs by Lindy Milkowski, Kaufman and Briana Gonzalez.
Prichard, Kaufman and Gonzalez all had two hits in the game for EIU.
