WESTERN CAROLINA 7, TENNESSEE STATE 5; NORTHERN IOWA 4, TENNESSEE STATE 0
ATLANTA, Ga. -
After finishing late on Friday night, the Tennessee State University Tigers had to play two morning games in the Georgia State University Panther Invitational. The Tigers started fast, scoring three runs in the first game against Western Carolina but lost 7-5. In the second game, Ryla Traylor had the only two hits against Northern Iowa in a 4-0 loss.

Tiger Rally Comes Up Short in 7-5 Loss to Western Carolina
The Tennessee State Tigers got three hits out of grad student Nahtali Simpson in a 7-5 loss to the Western Carolina Catamounts Saturday morning. Freshman Holly Ayala (2-3) started and took the loss in the circle for Tennessee State (8-4).

In addition to her three hits, Simpson had a double, a walk, and an RBI to lead the Tigers. Sophomore Ryla Traylor also performed well, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Ayala also chipped in for TSU, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

The Tigers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Traylor's single to left knocked in Peyton Fointno to start a three-run rally.  Ayala then singled to center to knock in Simpson.  Ayala scored on an RBI double by freshman Onnika Spencer.

The Catamounts then rallied to score seven runs and take a 7-3 lead before the Tigers got back on the board in the seventh. TSU plated two runs off Western Carolina pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of Simpson and a Traylor sacrifice fly, which tightened the Catamounts lead to 7-5. Western Carolina closed their win by getting ground outs by Ayala and Spencer.

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 4, WESTERN MICHIGAN 1
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn
. - Southeast Missouri (3-4) registered 11 hits with five players getting two apiece in a 4-1 win over Western Michigan (3-4) Saturday morning at the Frost Classic.

SEMO posted double-digit hits for the second time this young season receiving production from the middle and bottom parts of its lineup.

Attention was drawn to the circle early on where Delaney Kell and WMU starter Rissa Bajusz hooked up in a nice pitcher's duel. Neither allowed a run through the first four innings of play.

SEMO broke through with the game's first tally when Paige Halliwil walked, stole second and third, and scored an unearned run on a fielding error to give the Redhawks a 1-0 cushion.

The Redhawks took over for good with a three-run, four-hit sixth inning.

Kynzie Wrigley singled through the left side and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Tatum Gerwitz. Abigail Rickermann reached on a single to shortstop to get Wrigley to third. After Rickermann stole second, Zoe Schulte flied out and Wrigley scored. Halliwill followed with a double to score Rickermann and Alyson Tucker greeted WMU reliever Madysyn Lopez with an RBI-single to widen SEMO's lead to 4-0.

WMU's lone run of the game was unearned when pinch runner Taylor Wolfe scored on a wild pitch. Wolfe replaced Bella Gerlach who reached on an error to start the bottom of the seventh.

Kell (2-1) retired 12 of the 16 hitters she faced, while allowing just three hits and no runs in four innings of work. She recorded eight fly ball outs as only two runners made it into scoring position against her. Kell sat down each of the last five hitters she faced.

Holman relieved Kell in the fifth inning and retired the first seven hitters she faced en route to her second save. She finished with two strikeouts in three no-hit frames. Holman got back-to-back groundball outs with a runner in scoring position to end the game.

Five Redhawks had two hits. Halliwill went 2-for-3 with two runs, a double and one RBI, and Tucker finished at 2-for-4 with a double. Wrigley, Gerwitz and Rickermann combined for six hits and two runs at the bottom of SEMO's lineup.

All of WMU's hits were singles.

Bajusz suffered the loss. She pitched 5.2 innings giving up four runs on 10 hits. She struck out seven and walked one, as well.

SEMO resumes action at the Frost Classic with one more game vs. Akron today. First pitch is set for 2 p.m., CT
