- OVC Player of the Year Mark Freeman scored 19 points, including hitting four free throws in the final 10 seconds, as Morehead State topped Clemson 68-64 in the First Round of the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) on Wednesday.

This marked the first-ever appearance in the NIT for the Eagles, who won its first national postseason tournament game since 2016 (CBI).

Overall OVC teams have won at least one national postseason tournament game in 13 of the past 14 postseasons. It was the first NIT win for an OVC team since 2017 (Belmont); OVC teams are 18-26 all-time in the NIT.

Freeman was 6-of-6 at the line on the night and added four assists, three rebounds and two steals.  Alex Gross, the OVC Defensive Player of the Year who was named an Academic All-America on Tuesday, added 16 points and nine rebounds.

Morehead State advances to play UAB in the second round; the game will take place on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT (ESPN+).
