COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - After falling behind by five runs, the Eagles rallied to take a back-and-forth affair and secure the sweep against Tennessee Tech, with a 9-7 victory.
Seven different Eagles recorded RBIs in the high scoring matchup, including Ilencia Lightbody and Taikibrea Campbell picking up two RBI apiece, along with Peyton Jordan going 3-for-5 with an RBI. Emily Williams continued her on base streak with a 2-for-3 performance, including an RBI double.
In addition to her performance at the plate, Taikibrea Campbell came on in relief to pick up her first collegiate victory, allowing only one hit and one run in two innings of work. Jessie Begley recorded her first collegiate save and ended the weekend having thrown 19 of the team's 21 innings in the circle.
After two scoreless innings, the Eagles broke through in the third. Trinity Spear reached on a one out single and came around to score on an RBI groundout from Peyton Jordan.
After the Eagles stranded a pair of runners in the top of the fourth, Tennessee Tech rallied for six runs in the bottom half of the inning to leap out to a 6-1 lead.
The Eagles immediately responded with Madeline Gailor driving home Spear on an RBI single, and Taylor Rhea delivering an RBI single of her own to cut the lead to 6-3.
After a pitching change, Kaytlyn Cripps continued the rally with a run scoring sacrifice fly and Ilencia Lightbody drew a bases loaded walk to slice the lead down to one. Taikibrea Campbell gave the lead back to the Eagles by capping off a six-run inning with a two RBI single.
Tennessee Tech loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom half of the inning, but only managed to bring across one run off Taikibrea Campbell to even the score at 7-7.
After a leadoff single from Peyton Jordan, Emily Williams smacked an RBI double to give the Eagles an 8-7 lead. Ilencia Lightbody added to the advantage with an RBI single to score Williams.
Jessie Begley, who re-entered the game in the sixth, navigated out of trouble in the seventh to secure the 9-7 victory.
UT MARTIN 6, SIUE 5; UT MARTIN 8, SIUE 2
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - With chilly temperatures canceling Saturday's opening game of an Ohio Valley Conference three-game series, SIUE dropped a pair of contests Sunday to UT Martin.
SIUE, now 10-16 overall and 0-5 in the OVC, fell 6-5 in the opener and 8-2 in the nightcap.
The Cougars corralled the lead in game one but fell to a late three-run rally in the seventh against UT Martin, which improved to 9-11 overall and 2-3 in the OVC.
Kaitlyn Kelley starred for the Skyhawks with three hits and four RBIs.
SIUE's offense was limited to six hits in Sunday's opener. Emma Neuman, who now has a team-leading five-game hitting streak, rapped a two-RBI double in the third inning and added an RBI single in the seventh.
Rylie Pindel took the loss in game one in relief of Kelsey Ray.
In game two, UT Martin outhit the Cougars 12-5 and never looked back after scoring two runs in the second and third innings.
Lauren Yslava's RBI double to the gap in right center during the fourth inning was the offensive highlight for the Cougars. Neuman would score on a wild pitch in the sixth.
Sydney Baalman threw five innings for the Cougars, striking out six. After the loss, her record dropped to 5-5.
