LINDENWOOD 6, MOREHEAD STATE 5 (12)
ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Lindenwood baseball team (8-28, 5-7 OVC) fought back from tied 4-4 in the eighth inning to win in exciting fashion, rallying to earn a 6-5 walk-off victory in the 12th inning over the Morehead State Eagles (21-13, 7-2 OVC) on Sunday at Lou Brock Sports Complex.
Freshma n Carson Subbert pitched well, going five innings, surrendering one run on four hits, walking one and striking out three.
Offensively, the Lions were paced by junior Logan Stevens, who went 2-for-6 on the day with a triple and an RBI. Junior Tyson Ludwig compiled a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with two walks and two RBI. Junior Bradley Chesterton also helped out for Lindenwood, putting together one hit in one trip to the plate while adding two RBI.
Trailing 3-0, the Lions first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Lindenwood scored twice, with one run coming across on Ludwig's single.
The Lions deficit grew to 4-2 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the seventh inning. Lindenwood scored once on an RBI single off the bat of junior Anthony Stellato, which tightened the Eagles lead to 4-3.
Lindenwood held the Eagles off the scoreboard before rallying to tie it up at four in the eighth.
Morehead State then broke the tied and took a 5-4 lead before Lindenwood scored two runs in the bottom half of the twelfth to grab the win, walking it off on a two-run single off the bat of Chesterton.
SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 8, TENNESSEE TECH 6
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri (21-17, 10-2 OVC) used a three-run eighth inning to complete the series sweep of Tennessee Tech (10-24, 2-7 OVC) by a final score of 8-6 Sunday afternoon at Capaha Field.
The Redhawks, who trailed after the fifth inning, scored three runs on three singles in the eighth inning to snatch the victory in come-from-behind fashion as Josh Cameron, Lincoln Andrews, and Peyton Leeper all delivered to give the Redhawks an 8-6 advantage.
RHP Kyle Miller picked up his fifth save of the season pitching a flawless ninth inning in relief for Esteban Hernandez.
After a stat correction following yesterday's game, Miller became the all-time save leader in program history recording his 15th save of his career before picking up his 16th today.
The Redhawks rattled off 14 hits in Sunday's contest in a game that the teams combined for 21 hits and 14 runs.
Lincoln Andrews, Danny Sperling, and Chance Resetich each finished with three hits apiece in the series finale as the Redhawks picked up their 10th Ohio Valley Conference win of the season.
SEMO got things going in the first inning once again as the Redhawks pushed two across off TTU starting pitcher Tyler Zarella.
Resetich and Josh Cameron hit back-to-back doubles in the first for SEMO's first run. Resetich doubled with one out before Cameron doubled to right-center field to plate him.
Andrews singled to right field to drive in Cameron and the Redhawks led 2-0 after one.
Zarella's day ended in the second after giving up his third run of the day off a Resetich sacrifice fly to plate Danny Sperling. Zarella finished the day with 1.0 innings pitched, five hits, and three earned runs.
TTU would not go away. In the fourth inning an RBI groundout by Will Long plated the first Golden Eagle of the contest. A bases clearing double by outfielder Preston Ford got the Golden Eagles within a run of the Redhawks in the middle of the fourth.
SEMO scored their fifth run in the bottom half as a TTU error at first base would plate Jevon Mason.
The Golden Eagles would take the lead in the fifth inning of RHP Collin Wilma off back-to-back home runs.
A three-run home run by third baseman Peyton Mills and a solo blast by John Dyer put four runs on the board in the visitor's fifth to take a 6-5 lead all the way to the eighth inning.
TTU pitchers Jacob Morin and Brody Lanham loaded the bases in the eighth inning before giving way to RHP Reece McDuffie and the Redhawks jumped all over the opportunity to steal victory on Sunday afternoon.
Cameron, Andrews, and Leeper all had multi-RBI games with two apiece. Andrews finished 3-for 5 with a run scored. Leeper and Cameron finished 2-for-4 and 2-for-5, respectively.
Danny Sperling had a 3-for-3 day at the plate including a pair of runs scored.
LHP Haden Dow started the game for SEMO and took the no-contest on the afternoon. Dow pitched 4.0 innings, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out a pair of Golden Eagles.
SOUTHERN INDIANA 7, UT MARTIN 5
MARTIN, Tenn. - University of Southern Indiana junior catcher Parker Stroh (Grand Fork, North Dakota) and senior second baseman Lucas McNew (Floyds Knobs, Indiana) homered in the eighth and ninth innings to lead the Screaming Eagles to a 7-5 victory over the University of Tennessee at Martin Sunday afternoon in Martin, Tennessee. USI watched its record go to 10-25 overall and 3-9 in the OVC, while UTM goes to 11-26, 6-6 OVC, this spring.
 
USI jumped out to a 1-0 lead for the fourth-straight game when Stroh singled up the middle to drive in junior leftfielder Gavin McLarty (Buckner, Kentucky). The lead would hold until UTM tied the game with a single tally in the third.
 
The Eagles got back into the driver's seat with two runs in the fourth and the fifth to lead 5-1. McNew drove in junior designated hitter Tucker Ebest (Austin, Texas) with USI's second run when he reached on an error before scoring himself on a sacrifice fly by Stroh to make the score 3-1.
 
USI upped the lead to a game-high four runs, 5-1, on RBI-singles by Ebest and McLarty in the fifth. The Skyhawks responded with four runs to tie the game 5-5, posting a single tally in the bottom of the fifth and a trio of tallies in the sixth.
 
Stroh, who finished the game two-for-three with three RBIs, would strike again in the top of the eighth to push USI back into the lead, 6-5, with a solo shot to right field. The homer was Stroh's first of the season.
 
After UTM stranded the tying run on third in the eighth, McNew, who had two RBIs in the game, increased the lead to the final score of 7-5 in the top of the ninth with USI's second solo shot of the game. The round-tripper was McNew's second of the season and the 22nd of his career.
 
USI junior right-hander Carter Stamm (Jasper, Indiana) (2-1) picked up the win in relief after getting the Eagles out of the first and third jam in the seventh. Sophomore right-hander Tyler Hutson (Villa Hills, Kentucky) posted his first save of the season and the fourth of his career after throwing two scoreless frames to secure the victory.
 
The Eagles got a strong outing from junior left-hander Blake Ciuffetelli (Newburgh, Indiana) to start the game, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out four in 4.1 innings of work.
 
The middle innings were anchored by sophomore right-hander Adam Weihe (Louisville, Kentucky). Wiehe, who relieved Ciuffetelli in the fifth, allowed three unearned runs on three hits in 2.1 innings of work.
