MOREHEAD, Ky. - The Morehead State baseball team rode a five run third inning to a 6-2 win over Marshall on Wednesday, securing the seventh 30-win season in program history.
Hunter Porter (1-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Morehead State (30-18). The right-hander went 2.2 shutout innings, giving up two hits, one walk and striking out two. Senior Matt Bettio also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out one.
In the batter's box, the Eagles were paced by junior Colton Becker, who went 2-for-4 on the day with two doubles and two RBI. Junior Jacob Ferry compiled a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-1 with a home run and an RBI. Junior Hamilton Anderson also chipped in for Morehead State, putting together two hits in two trips to the plate while adding a double.
The Eagles put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the third inning. Morehead State's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Becker and a solo shot off the bat of Jacob Ferry.
The Eagles then held the Thundering Herd scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Anderson came across to score the lone run of the inning for Morehead State, which brought the score to 6-0 in favor of the Eagles. Marshall put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Morehead State still coasted to the 6-2 win.
