LINDENWOOD 75, STONEHILL COLLEGE 74
MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Lindenwood men's basketball (2-3, 0-0 OVC) survived on Sunday with a 75-74 win over Stonehill College (2-4, 0-0 NEC) to end the Urban-Bennett MTE hosted at Robert Morris University. The Lions' eight three-pointers are the most by the team this season.
Anias Futrell had his best game as a Lion today after scoring a season-high 24 points in the win. Futrell's three-made foul shots with 14 seconds left gave Lindenwood the one-point lead. The St. Louis native shot 7-16 from the field including three threes. He also went 7-7 from the foul line while adding 11 rebounds for his first double-double.
The freshman duo of Jadis Jones and Clayton Jackson both scored in double-figures with 14 and 12 points respectively. Jones went 4-7 from the field and added two steals and two blocks defensively. Jackson was 4-6 from the floor while draining two threes.
Stonehill's offense was carried by the long ball as the Skyhawks shot 15-30 from distance. The Skyhawks were 9-21 for the rest of the game on non-three point shots. Lindenwood out-rebounded Stonehill 40-29 including 15 offensive rebounds.
The Lions started out the game on fire hitting four of their first five shots including three three-pointers. Lindenwood led 11-6 before the first media timeout. Leading for over 11 minutes of the first half, Stonehill took their first lead with 8:52 left after a three-pointer from Todd Brogna.
Lindenwood trailed by as many as six points in the first half, but Futrell drained a three-pointer with under five second left in the half to put the Lions down one 35-36. Futrell led all scorers in the first 20 minutes with 15 points while Reggie Bass added six of his eight points.
The Skyhawks jumped out to a 16-4 run to start the second half as the Lions trailed by 13, the largest deficit of the game. With just over 12:00 minutes remaining, Jones put back up a second chance opportunity to cut the lead to seven.
Lindenwood took the lead back in the second half with 3:25 left after Jones got an and-one to go putting LU ahead 68-67. The Lions' scored their final eight points of the game at the foul line where they went 8-8.
With 25 second remaining, Amir Nesbitt for Stonehill put up a long two-pointer to take back the lead from the Lions. Futrell with 14 seconds left took the ball and was fouled at the top of the key for three free-throws. He would make all three putting the Lions ahead by one with 14 second left.
On the ensuing possession, Colin Ruffin would foul Josh Morgan with under five left to play and send him to the foul line. Morgan missed both opportunities to tie the game at 75. After a tie-ball was called, Stonehill's final chance hit the front of the rim by Nesbitt as Lindenwood held on to win 75-74.
Lindenwood outscored Stonehill 40-38 in the second half while shooting 11-30 from the field. The Lions made the most of their chances at the foul line though making 15-20 to claim their first win at the MTE.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Rob Martin matched a career-high 29 points and Teddy Washington, Jr. had a double-double 25 points and 10 rebounds as Southeast Missouri (1-3) came up short in an 87-82 loss to Chattanooga (2-3) Sunday.
Martin and Washington, Jr. gave SEMO two 20-point scorers in a game for the first time this season.
Down, 83-79, with 36 seconds to go, Martin drained a 3-pointer to get SEMO within one 23 seconds later. His big 3-pointer came after Bash Wieland missed two free throws.
Following a 30-second timeout, Honor Huff was fouled and knocked down two free throws to give UTC a 85-82 edge with 11 seconds.
The Redhawks had one last opportunity and Martin had a good look from the top of the arc, but his 3-point shot came off the rim and Jack Kostel made two free throws in the final seconds to seal the victory.
Martin's driving layup put SEMO ahead, 54-51, with just under 17 minutes to play before the momentum swung in the Mocs' direction.
The Redhawks, at one point, missed 12 of 13 field goals and UTC put together a 17-4 run to take a 68-58 advantage. Sean Cusano's free throws ended the run with 9:51 remaining.
After that, SEMO did not lead again despite being within three or less points on five occasions.
Neither team led by more than five points during the game's first 10:50 of action.
After Washington, Jr.'s 3-pointer made it a 15-14 game, the Mocs went on a 10-1 run to take their biggest lead of the opening stanza.
Kostel converted a 3-point play that was followed up by a Makai Richards' hookshot that finished the surge giving the Mocs a 24-16 lead with 9:10 to play.
Martin's layup tied the game and his free throw after being fouled on the play gave the Redhawks a 43-42 edge with 1:31 left, their first lead of the contest.
Martin then made a pullup jumper to send the game to a 45-45 deadlock at the intermission.
Martin shot 12-of-24 from the field, made two 3-pointers, grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists to lead the way.
Washington, Jr. posted his second-straight double-double adding 10 rebounds to go along with his season-high 25 points. He added four assists and three steals, as well.
BJ Ward followed with 13 points for his fourth-straight game in double figures.
Washington, Jr., Ward and Martin all reached double-digits in the first half.
SEMO shot just under 60 percent (59.4) from the field in the opening stanza and 47.1 percent (33-of-70) for the afternoon.
UTC, too, shot well in the first half hitting 53.3 percent of its field goals. The Mocs shot 48.3 percent (28-of-58) in the game. Additionally, UTC made nine 3-pointers, including seven in the first half.
Noah Melson scored 15 points to lead five players in double figures for the Mocs. Melson came off the UTC bench which outscored SEMO, 39-6.
