MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois Men's Basketball secured a thrilling 71-68 victory over Tennessee Tech in an Ohio Valley Conference showdown at Western Hall on Tuesday night. The Leathernecks used a strong second-half performance to improve to 7-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Ryan Myers led the way for the Leathernecks with a stellar 21-point outing, hitting 7-of-13 from the field and sinking two three-pointers. Myers' effort was complemented by Marko Maletic, who added 14 points and five rebounds, and Sean Smith, who contributed 12 points along with a game-high four assists. The Leathernecks displayed a balanced attack with five blocks and eight steals, applying consistent defensive pressure throughout the contest.
The game was tightly contested, with the score knotted at 31 heading into halftime. Western Illinois found it's rhythm in the second half, outscoring Tennessee Tech 40-37 and limiting their opponents to 42.6% shooting. Key contributions off the bench, especially in second-chance points (15), proved pivotal. Tay Knox came off the bench for the first time this season helping himself to four points, eight rebounds, and two blocks to lead the bench for the Leathernecks.
