MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois Women's Basketball delivered a commanding performance Monday night at Western Hall, overpowering Clarke University, 97-58. From the opening tip, the Leathernecks controlled the pace of the game, showcasing their depth, efficiency, and defensive prowess to claim their sixth win of the season.

The first quarter was back-and-forth as WIU would trail after the first quarter by a score of 25-24. The Leathernecks would turn things around defensively in the second quarter holding Clarke to only 11 points. The Leatherneck defense forced 12 turnovers from Clarke on the night, converting those opportunities into 18 points.

By halftime, Western Illinois extended their lead to 46-36, fueled by strong bench contributions and fast break opportunities. Sophomore guard Raegan McCowan had a double-double to lead all scorers. She would finish with 25 points and 10 rebounds, both of which were game-highs. She was efficient from the floor, shooting 11-for-13, and her presence in the paint on both ends of the court provided a significant advantage for the Leathernecks.

Mia Nicastro provided a stellar performance as well, contributing 19 points and 7 rebounds. She was particularly effective around the rim, converting high-percentage shots and grabbing offensive boards to extend possessions.

The Leathernecks' reserves made a significant impact, tallying 36 points. Freshman guard Shelby Bowman was particularly lethal from beyond the arc, hitting four three-pointers en route to 12 points. Maria Messling and Jasmine Nichols added crucial minutes, combining for 17 points and 10 rebounds, while the team's second-chance opportunities totaled 15 points, and WIU would out rebound Clarke on the glass 50-27.

The Leathernecks not only limited their opponent to 36% from the floor, but also dominated in transition, scoring 19 fast-break points. Their ability to capitalize on steals and defensive rebounds kept Clarke off balance, especially during a decisive third quarter in which Western Illinois outscored them 31-6. For the game, the Leathernecks scored a staggering 64 points in the paint.
