NASHVILLE - Troy Cole, Jr. scored 10 points off the bench and Southeast Missouri (3-5) led for just 23 seconds in a 78-60 loss to Lipscomb (6-4) Thursday at Allen Arena.
Elliot Lowndes scored the game's first basket and LU responded with an 11-0 run to build a nine-point lead in the first four minutes of action. SEMO missed four of its first five shots and went scoreless for over three minutes while the Bisons went ahead early.
David Idada's layup ended the drought for the Redhawks with 16:12 remaining in the first half. A jumper by BJ Ward then made it a five-point game (11-6) 44 seconds later.
After that, SEMO missed six-straight field goals and the Bisons capitalized with a 7-0 surge to grab a double-digit 18-6 advantage on Gyasi Powell's jumper with 12:20 to go.
The Redhawks managed to make it a two-possession game during a stretch where LU went nearly four minutes without a field goal. Rob Martin made a jumper and TJ Biel followed with two free throws to narrow the Bisons lead to 22-16 at the 7:52 mark.
Powell's 3-pointer ended LU's cold spell and made another 3-pointer to push the Bisons lead to 28-18.
SEMO again pulled to within six at 32-26 on a 3-pointer by Troy Cole, Jr. with 3:19 on the clock before LU took a 37-28 advantage at the half.
The Bisons opened a 16-point lead by scoring the first seven points of the second half in a span of 1:27. Will Pruitt's 3-pointer extended LU's lead to 44-28 just ahead of a SEMO timeout with 18:33 left to play.
That seven-point burst sparked a 22-4 run and LU led by as many as 27 on its way to claiming its sixth win of the season.
LU made 10 three-pointers and shot 48.3 percent from the field (29-of-60).
Cole, Jr. shot 4-of-9 from the field and scored double figures for the second game in a row.
Jacob Ognacevic led the Bisons with 20 points and seven rebounds. Powell followed with 19 points and Dylan Faulkner added 13.
