ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Lindenwood softball (11-11, 1-1 OVC) won their first Ohio Valley Conference game of the season on Saturday after splitting their double header against SIUE at the Lou Brock Sports Complex. SIUE won game one 10-0 before LU came back and took game two 7-2.
Lindenwood suffered their first loss in conference play on Saturday after a 10-0 loss in six innings against the Cougars. Amanda Weyh (L, 6-5) was given the loss after throwing five innings allowing six runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.
Kelsey Ray (W, 6-2) for the Cougars picked up the win after throwing all six innings limiting the Lions to just four hits in game one. SIUE scored early in the first inning off a SAC fly to go up 1-0.
Lindenwood surrendered two more runs in the top of the second after RBI hits from Paige Rocha and Jenna Herron. After going up 6-0, SIUE scored four more runs in the top of the sixth to close out the game.
Irelynn West had a triple in game one while Alli Tudor, Izzy Wilcox and Morgan Gersch all had hits. Molly Berkey also threw the final inning allowing four runs on one hit with three walks.
The Lions bounced back in game two with a 7-2 victory over the SIUE Cougars giving them their first OVC win of the season and first win over SIUE in program history. Avery Wapp (W, 4-3) was the winning pitcher for the Lions throwing all seven innings allowing two runs on seven hits.
After SIUE got on the board in the top of the first, Lindenwood responded with five runs of their own to take a commanding lead. LU scored five runs on three hits in the inning including RBI hits from Madisen Noll and Dallis Darnell (2). Darnell and Pelton scored later in the inning off an error to put the Lions up 5-1.
SIUE picked up one more run in the second, but Lindenwood's defense kept the Cougars off the scoreboard from there on after. The Cougars left 11 base runners stranded in the loss.
Tori Hatton picked up the final two RBI of the afternoon in the fourth inning with a single up the middle. Lindenwood's defense turned a 6-3 double play in the top of the seventh to secure the win. The Lions had seven hits in game two including two from Hatton. Hatton and Darnell also had two RBI each.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - First baseman Aubrie Shore had five hits and three doubles to lead Southeast Missouri (5-15, 1-1) to a doubleheader split with Eastern Illinois (13-8, 1-1) Saturday in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both teams. SEMO took game two, 9-4, after dropping a 7-4 decision in extra innings.
SEMO overcame an early two-run deficit with a four-run first inning and never turned back to earn its first OVC win in the nightcap.
Brooklyn Saysoff led off with a single to right field and Shore singled to left. Kat Sackett followed with a double to center and Saysoff scored. Paige Halliwill drew a one-out walk Brittany Affolter hit into a fielder's choice allowing Shore to touch home. Sophie Schupp knocked in two more runs on a two-out double putting the Redhawks ahead, 4-2.
EIU managed to get within a run in the top of the third, but SEMO countered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and another two in the sixth to finish off the Panthers.
Affolter delivered a two-RBI hit and Schupp drove in Halliwill on a base hit to left in the fifth. An inning later, Halliwill brought home SEMO's last two runs of the day on her first triple of the season.
Tegan Livesay (1-3) picked up her first career win in the circle. Livesay worked five innings allowing four runs on four hits. She also struck out one.
Olivia Price (4-6) suffered the loss. SEMO roughed up Price for seven runs on nine hits in 4.1 innings of work. Price struck out three, as well.
The Redhawks tallied a season-high 12 hits in their second double-digit hit game of the year. Shore, Sackett and Schupp each paved the way with two hits. Tori Bradley and Halliwill scored twice apiece and Affolter and Schupp turned in three RBI.
Shore went 3-for-6 with two doubles, three runs scored and one RBI, and Saysoff contributed three hits of her own in a marathon game one.
SEMO and EIU duked it out for three hours and 25 minutes before a winner was decided in the 12th inning.
Tied, 3-3, the Panthers scored four runs in the top of the 12th to edge the Redhawks.
Shore ripped a one-out line drive that hit the top of the left field wall and stayed in the ballpark for a double in the home half of the 12th. Saysoff's two-out single knocked in Shore for SEMO's final run in that contest.
SEMO led 3-1 before EIU tied the game on a two-run home run by Kendall Grover in the top of the fourth inning.
McKenzie Oslanzi (8-1) pitched all 12 innings giving up four runs on nine hits and striking out seven along the way. Oslanzi threw a total of 174 pitchers in her complete game victory.
Maddie Carney (0-3) was credited with the loss. Carney, at one time, retired 12 in a row in her strong performance out of the bullpen. She tossed 6.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits.
SEMO won a program record 30-straight home games prior to its extra inning loss to the Panthers. The Redhawks are 31-1 in their last 32 games at the Southeast Softball Complex.
The multi-hit day put Shore over 100 career hits. She now has 102 hits as one of two Redhawks on the roster with more than 100 hits.
