SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 13, MOREHEAD STATE 3 (6)
MOREHEAD, Ky. - Paige Halliwill went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI, and Southeast Missouri (18-21, 12-6) completed a series sweep of Morehead State (10-21, 4-14) with a 13-3 victory Monday.
SEMO run-ruled MSU for the second time to polish off its second series sweep of the season. The Redhawks outscored the Eagles, 37-8, en route to a program record for most runs in a series. SEMO's previous mark was 30 runs vs. Tennessee Tech in 2023 and at Tennessee State in 2002.
The Redhawks, who have a 14-game winning streak against MSU, are now 73-22 in the all-time series between the teams.
SEMO wasted no time going to work against starting left-hander Cassiti Baroni.
Abigail Rickermann drew a leadoff walk and quickly advanced to third on an ensuing single by Halliwill. Rickermann scored the first run of the game on the front end of a double steal and Marissa Peek followed with a walk.
Halliwill later scored when Aubrie Shore reached on an error. On the next play, Kynzie Wrigley doubled home Kat Sackett. Sydney Dennis then grounded out and Shore scored to give the Redhawks a 4-0 advantage in the top of the first inning.
SEMO tacked on six more runs during their at-bat in the third.
Back-to-back singles by Shore and Wrigley, and a walk by Dennis loaded the bases with one out. Tatum Gerwitz knocked in both Wrigley and Shore on a base hit up the middle. Brittany Affolter, Halliwill and Peek each added RBI-singles before Hallwill touched home on a wild pitch to make it 10-0 in favor of the Redhawks.
After MSU scored once in the fourth and twice in the fifth, SEMO put the Eagles away for good.
Halliwill walked with the bases loaded and Dennis scored before Tori Bradley stepped in and delivered a two-RBI single to cap the 13-3 rout in the top half of the sixth.
Paytience Holman (10-8) picked up her 10th win of the season. Holman allowed just one run on four hits and struck out two in four innings.
SEMO outhit MSU, 12-6, with Hallwill and Wrigley each leading the way with multiple hits.
Halliwill had three singles, while Wrigley went 2-for-2 with a run scored, double and one RBI. Seven other Redhawks had a hit. Halliwill had a huge series hitting .700 (7-for-10) with seven runs, two home runs and five RBI against the Eagles. She hit safely in each of her final seven at-bats of the series.
As a team, the Redhawks hit .378 with 34 hits, eight stolen bases, three home runs and four doubles against MSU this year.
SEMO is 15-3 in its last 18 Ohio Valley Conference road games with three series sweeps in that span. Additionally, the Redhawks won seven of their last nine contests.
EASTERN ILLINOIS 3, SOUTHERN INDIANA 0; EASTERN ILLINOIS 6, SOUTHERN INDIANA 1
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Eastern Illinois received strong pitching performances all weekend, adding two more on Monday as the Panthers completed a weekend sweep over Southern Indiana.
EIU won game one on Monday 3-0, followed by a 6-1 win in the nightcap.
EIU improved to 28-12 overall, 14-4 in the OVC. USI fell to 16-17 overall, 10-8 in the OVC.
For the second straight game Eastern Illinois pitching was on point as Olivia Price tossed a four-hit shutout as the Panthers clinched the weekend series with a 3-0 win.
Price pitched out of several USI scoring opportunities including the best Screaming Eagles chance in the bottom of the third as Hailey Gotshall singled to right center advancing Caroline Stapleton to third with one out. Price coaxed the next two outs to get out of the inning.
EIU did all of its damage in the first inning scoring three runs against Whitley Hunter (2-6).
Kendall Grover opened the game with a single and came around to score on a Jadin Justman RBI double. Justman was 2-for-3 at the plate as the Panthers had four hits in the game.
McKenzie Oslanzi drove in the second run with a single to center and the Panthers final run came on an RBI by Aryn Henke.
Price improved to 7-7 on the season with Mackenzie Bedrick picking up two hits to lead USI.
McKenzie Oslanzi outdueled Josie Newman for the second time this weekend helping Eastern Illinois collect the weekend sweep with a 6-1 win.
Oslanzi improved to 18-3 in the circle with her second complete game of the weekend. She allowed one unearned run.
Oslanzi also helped her own cause at the plate hitting a 3-run home run in the third scoring Rachel Kaufman and Jadin Justman.
The Oslanzi blast followed a two-run shot by Kendall Grover earlier in the inning as Grover hit her OVC leading eighth home run.
Aryn Henke added an RBI single in the top of the seventh adding an insurance run for the Panthers. Grover and Henke both had two hits to lead EIU.
USI scored its one run in the fourth on an RBI single by Sydney Long that scored Kate Satkoski. Long was joined by Caroline Stapleton as Screaming Eagles with two hits.
Newman (14-7) took the loss for USI with a complete game effort.
