WESTERN ILLINOIS 88, TENNESSEE STATE 67
MACOMB, Ill. - The Leatherneck Women's Basketball team snapped their two-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon after putting together an impressive showing at Western Hall, defeating Tennessee State 88-67. With balanced scoring and consistent defensive pressure, the Leathernecks dominated the game, showcasing their depth and offensive versatility.

Leading the way for WIU was Mallory McDermott, who poured in 24 points on an efficient 7-of-11 shooting, including six three-pointers. McDermott's six three pointers is tied for the second most in a single game in WIU women's basketball history. Complementing her efforts was Mia Nicastro, who recorded 20 points and grabbed six rebounds, providing a strong interior presence for the Leathernecks.

Raegan McCowan was instrumental in WIU's success as well, contributing 14 points and five rebounds. Her aggressive play in the paint created scoring opportunities and helped maintain WIU's advantage throughout the game. Addi Brownfield orchestrated the offense with eight assists while also adding 13 points, further emphasizing WIU's cohesive ball movement.

The Leathernecks shot a stellar 51.9% (27-of-52) from the field, including 56.3% (9-of-16) from three-point range. Their precision shooting was complemented by a dominant 25-of-34 performance at the free-throw line, a key factor in maintaining their double-digit lead.

Defensively, WIU capitalized on TSU's 18 turnovers, converting them into 26 points. Their ability to apply pressure and force mistakes disrupted TSU's rhythm, while their rebounding effort ensured control of second-chance opportunities.

WIU also showcased their depth, with contributions from multiple players off the bench. While their reserves accounted for 12 points, their defensive impact was equally valuable, helping to limit TSU's scoring options. Kennedy Flanagan and Shelby Bowman each had one steal, while Flanagan and Madison Davis added one block each.

Although TSU made periodic runs, WIU's composure and consistent scoring stifled any momentum the visitors attempted to build. The Leathernecks' ability to control the pace, spread the floor, and capitalize on defensive stops highlighted their dominance on both ends of the court.
