DeBauche Announces Resignation; Walter Named Acting Commissioner

The Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Board of Presidents and Chancellors today announced that Commissioner Beth DeBauche has submitted her resignation, effective immediately. With the passing of her father, she will be spending time focused on family priorities.

Commissioner DeBauche has served the OVC with distinction since 2009, becoming the first female commissioner in the conference’s history. Under her leadership, the OVC has navigated significant changes in the collegiate athletics landscape, including membership transitions, strategic growth initiatives, and a steadfast commitment to student-athlete success.

“Beth DeBauche has been a transformative leader for the Ohio Valley Conference,” said Dr. John Porter, Chair of the OVC Board of Presidents and Chancellors. “Her vision, integrity, and dedication to the student-athlete experience have left an enduring legacy. We are deeply grateful for her years of service and leadership.”

During her tenure, DeBauche championed academic excellence, expanded championship opportunities, and strengthened the conference’s governance and compliance structures. Her collaborative approach and steady leadership have earned respect across the NCAA and among peer conferences.

The OVC Board has named Greg Walter as Acting Commissioner.  The OVC will be engaging an outside firm to conduct a national search for an Interim Commissioner, which will help set the course for future leadership of the OVC. The conference is strong and united in a challenging environment for collegiate athletics, and looks forward to identifying a new, talented leader to move the OVC forward.
