2025 OVC Tennis Championship - First Round

ST. LOUIS - The 2025 OVC Women's Tennis Championship is set to begin today. The first match of the day between the top seedded Southeast Missouri and the No. 8 seed Tennessee State is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. CT. Due to rain, the match will take place at the YMCA Edwardsville (Illinois).

The remaining games will be continue as scheduled at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis, Missouri, weather permitting. Scheduling updates will be posted as soon as information is available.

This year marks the 49th time the women's championship has been contested (it was first held in 1977). 

Last year, In a rematch of the previous season's title match, SIUE knocked off defending champion Southeast Missouri to win its third OVC Women's Tennis Tournament Championship and first since 2017.

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Southeast Missouri Tennis (14-9) sweeps Tennessee State (2-16) 4-0 to advance to the semifinals of the OVC Tournament.

The Redhawks extended their winning streak to six matches and since 2021 the Redhawks are now 7-2 in the OVC Tournament.

The doubles pair of Juliette Demunck and Yontha Tadoum have now won eight straight matches. 

The first round matchup started with doubles action with SEMO making quick work and capturing the doubles point in two matches.

Doubles play was very close for the start. SEMO would score then the Tigers would rally and tie it right back up. Southeast Missouri would then quickly start to pull away starting with Lera Valeeva and Kristina Kozakova teaming up on court two to take on Lousie Ratiu and Natalie Walsh. Valeeva and Kozakova would win 6-2.

Juliette Demunck and Yontha Tadoum captured the doubles point on court three also winning 6-2 but against Ar. Arietta-Castillo and Victoria Cooksey. The No. 1 pair of Maja Bajorek and Mia Mayerova went unfinished 5-3.

In singles action the Redhawks won three matches all in straight sets in a row to clinch the victory.

Lera Valeeva, at position one, won 6-1, 6-2 against Francis Gomez-Weiss to capture SEMO's second point of the contest. Juliette Demunck finished shortly after Valeeva winning 6-2, 6-4 on court three against Sydney Brantley.

Yontha Tadoum clinched the match for the Redhawks when she flew past Ratiu on court two winning 6-3, 6-4.

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.
 - Amelia Gorman provided the match-clinching point Thursday as fourth-seeded SIUE defeated fifth-seeded Lindenwood 4-1 in the quarterfinals of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.

Gorman, the OVC's Player of the Year, pulled out the victory for the Cougars with a 6-1, 7-5 triumph over Fabiana Labrador. 

The Cougars now move on to face top-seeded Southeast Missouri in the semifinals. Match time is 10 a.m. Friday at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center, pending favorable weather conditions. SEMO bested Tennessee State 4-0 in the quarterfinals. This is a rematch of the 2024 OVC Tournament championship match.

SIUE and Lindenwood faced off Thursday at the indoor tennis facility at the Edwardsville Y Meyer Center after tournament officials deemed the weather to be an issue to play outdoors at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.

Winning four singles matches Friday, SIUE surged after dropping the doubles point to the Lions.

Peyton Tomichek led the charge with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Michelle Trochez at No. 3 singles. Stefaniya Anikina, a second team All-OVC selection, continued to go undefeated in singles this season with a 6-0, 6-0 No. 4 singles win over Paola Garcia. Paige Duncan made it 3-1 at No. 5 singles with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Sarah Ben Aba.

- The WIU tennis team moved on to the semifinals in dominant fashion, securing a 4-0 victory against the University of Southern Indiana in the opening round of the tournament.

In doubles action, the duo of Nour Gueblaoui and Richardlyne Francois clinched a hard-fought 7-5 win at No. 1. At No. 2, Paige Grice and Mana Fawcett edged out their opponents with a 6-4 victory. Chloé Routier and  Lara Souza completed the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win at No. 3, giving WIU the opening point.

Western Illinois carried the momentum into singles play. At No. 6, Fawcett set the tone with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory. Gueblaoui followed at No. 5, winning in two sets, 6-3 and 6-1.The clinching point came from Souza at No. 4, earning a 6-2, 6-4 sealing the 4-0 team victory.

Three singles matches went unfinished as WIU had already secured the team win. At No. 1, Francois led 6-3, 0-2 before play was stopped. At No. 2, Routier dropped the first set 6-4 and trailed 0-1 in the second. Grice, at No. 3, had a close match, narrowly losing the first set 7-5 and leading 1-0 in the second before it was called.

- The Bryant University women's tennis team opened the Ohio Valley Conference championship tournament with a bang earning a perfect 4-0 win over Eastern Illinois Thursday evening.

The Bulldogs were leading the Panthers after doubles play with the first win coming from Nicole Isman and Lucia Pino. Natalia Vela and Maria Jose Hernandez Diaz clinched the point for the Black and Gold. Carrying the momentum into singles play, Bryant successfully clinched the win after victories from Lisa Marie Dugec, Yahli Noy, and Aurora Pedwell, who sealed the deal.
